Mod had hoped that the Dunamen would make this easy, but he had plans in place in case they didn't.

His probes had easily weathered the worst of the ship's weapons. Most of them were powered by the crew, therefore reality-warping based and easily negated. The Dunamen relied too heavily on their powers. If their ballistic weapons were any indication, then their technology was lacking.

Mod watched as the antimatter fields expanded. The shields died, and the weapon systems froze. There were a few other energy fields and lights scattered across the hull of the ship, and they cut off abruptly.

Then the fields enveloped the ship. Mod couldn't see inside, but he knew that all the Dunamen on board were losing their powers. He remembered the anguish and the fear on Paragon's face when he lost his powers. That was happening hundreds of times over. Everyone on board was experiencing the same thing.

It didn't deter Mod in the slightest. All the suffering in the sky above paled in comparison to the suffering that superpowers had wrought on Earth. Eventually, Mod would explain that the effects weren't permanent, but that could wait until after they landed.

Paragon stood beside him, watching the sight with mounting horror.

"What are you doing?" Paragon asked. "The ship—the entire ship—flies because of the crew! Don't you understand? They won't be able to stop!"

Paragon lunged forward. Moondust exploded in a cloud around them. Mod stopped him with one hand, like an unruly child. He didn't even turn to acknowledge the former super.

Paragon was right to be afraid for his brethren. The ship had slowed down, but it was still on a collision course with the moon, and it was still moving far too fast. Even with their Dunamen biology, there was no way anyone would survive a crash at hypersonic speed.

Mod looked at the distressed super. "I know what I'm doing, but I need to concentrate."

Paragon stopped struggling. There was a pleading look in his eyes. "What are you going to do?"

Mod turned back toward the task at hand. "I'm catching a spaceship."

Both probes latched onto the ship. Nanites spread out, forming a web across the hull. Three more probes had taken off from the lunar surface and would soon do the same thing. Once attached, they would reverse thrust and decelerate the ship even more. The nanite web would distribute the force and let Mod feel the strain the ship was under.

There was one simulation where Mod was able to redirect the ship and place it in a stable orbit around the moon. That was no longer feasible. Now he had to get the ship down to the surface in one piece.

While the probes did their part, the swarm on the surface began stage two.

A month ago, TINA planted the seeds of a lunar swarm. During that time, nanites had built antimatter reactors on the moon and additional bodies for Mod. And all the time, the swarm had been growing. Now, Mod called on the full might of the swarm.

The moon rumbled.

For the last two years, Mod had been improving his nanite control, his dexterity, and the sheer mass that he could handle. He'd come a long way from making nanite tables in Athena's apartment. Since then he'd controlled much larger and more complicated swarms.

This dwarfed all of those.

The surface area of the moon was roughly equivalent to the entire continent of Asia, or to the combined area of both North and South America. His swarm was spread out across much of that surface.

Mod grabbed the swarm and pulled it to him. Nanites couldn't move fast enough through the empty air, so masses coalesced, threading themselves into fast-moving rivers across the surface. If any Dunamen could see what was happening, they would've seen the moon come alive.
