The Dunamen ship had arrived in Earth-space and now approached Earth's solitary moon. It looked like a silver crescent moon emerging from the black. Even from afar, one could see the distinct layers of crystal and metal used to make the hull. The ship's true name could only be spoken in the old tongue of its people, but roughly translated it meant Beacon of Terradun.

Most of the Beacon was eerily quiet, from the maintenance wings to the command deck. All pertinent communication was handled by shipboard psychics, tasked with maintaining mind-links from one department to another. These mind-links connected the entire ship in a spiderweb of instantaneous communication.

The only sounds were the hum of sustained magic and artisan machinery. The latter was used mainly for air recyclers and temperature control—systems that needed to run constantly and were too taxing to maintain otherwise.

The rest of the ship's many systems were run off of the Dunamen's inherent powers.

Movers and flamewrights shared the burden of moving the ship. The Beacon of Terradun was large enough that it required multiple of each working in tandem. One or two movers could get the ship off of a planet, but only a team could do so without damaging it. Movers helped with steering, while flamewrights controlled acceleration and deceleration. Multiple flamewrights were needed for similar reasons.

Artisans and sparkwrights handled ship systems and repair. Sparkwrights were also chiefly in charge of powering most ship systems, including the numerous weapon systems.

The one voice onboard the ship was the one in charge.

Chancellor Creed stood in the middle of the command deck. Despite the dress robes of his station, he had a warrior's build and bearing.

Like most other rooms onboard, the command deck was sparsely furnished and inlaid with synergistic metals and crystals to aid power conduction. There was a grace to the artisan's workings since the materials were both grown and sculpted. But much of the nuance escaped him. Chancellor Creed was a warrior, and he appreciated the vessel as a weapon, not as a work of art.

The twelve various heads of command were seated around the room. They relayed psychic information to each other, to their divisions, and back to him. Most information was handled this way, though some additional information was displayed on their micro-tile displays.

As the authority on the ship, the Chancellor's voice was the only one spoken aloud.

"Slow our approach vector and drop cloaking."

A large micro-tile display took up the main wall, and currently displayed the nearby planet and moon. There was some kind of energy field around both of them, and the fields seemed to originate from their surfaces. Multiple divisions were trying to determine what the energy field was, but so far their methods weren't working.

He frowned at the new view. Mentally, Creed ordered the view to shift. The micro-tiles rippled and reoriented themselves.

A second later, the psychic teams confirmed what he already suspected. Whatever the energy was, it was acting as a barrier. The psychics couldn't sense any of the humans beyond.

And they couldn't sense Paragon.

Space wasn't empty, however. Two faint signals had taken off from the moon's surface. Artisans confirmed that these were two unmanned objects, cloaked and heading for the Beacon on a controlled trajectory.

Chancellor Creed wasn't worried. There was an impenetrable barrier around the ship. Human technology wasn't very advanced, but Creed had ordered the movers to maintain the barrier as long as they were in the solar system.
