Ashes rained down into the crimson forest. The sky was a burgundy, abyssal clouds of ash, sulfur, and toxins hurried along in the wind. Evergreens caught flame as the flaming lave winded it's way down the mountains side. Volcanic rocks showered the nearby forest as animals raced away to safety, deer, rabbits, squirrels... A Truck?

The military pick up trucked rattled along the undergrowth, rushing logs, banging against boulders, and swerving around trees. Two frantic men sat in the two seats, the red haze of the forest blotting out their sight. The trucks bright headlights could only make out what was ahead them by two feet or so, maybe a foot.

Along the pickup truck, were two cages. Two titanium cages varying in size. They were strapped down by melting ropes, the cries of creatures in pain sounding from the both. The truck rattled as a volcanic boulder blasted its side. The truck was sent tumbling down a valley, the force of the boulder was staggering.  The smallest of the two cages broke free of the weakened ropes and tumbled off in an opposite direction, leaving an awkward trail. The truck finally skid to a halt in a darker part of the forest.

The trees were completely black, a gray haze filled the forest. The forest floor was thick with fresh snow, though the sky was blotted out by the tangle of the haunted trees' branches. An ominous wind winded through the towering evergreens, whispering its lonely song along the trees. The ominous moan was interrupted by the banging of metal.

The passenger side to the overturned pickup truck shot off and hit a tree, a boot shooting out in its place. The boot retracted back into the truck and a bloodied soldier crawled out. He only made halfway before he was startled by the crunch of snow, and the feeling of being watched. The soldier raised his head to face a black cloud. A black cloud with gleaming scarlet dots sprinkled along the mass of the cloud in pairs. Eyes.

A large black wolf stepped out of the mist. The cloud began howling and yelping, yipping, and barking. The man scanned the beast with his only good eye. The large wolf's eyes were a blazing read, gleaming in the twilight. His lips curled back to a snarl, revealing large, sharp carnissiels and tar-black saliva that dripped onto the soldier's face. Before the soldier to back into the safety of the truck the large beast lunged forward, canines breaking into his skull, scarlet blood splattering onto the wolf's face. The cry of the wolf pack heightened as they crowded around the man. The cries of the wolves and the sound of tearing flesh sounded throughout the forest.

The steady sound of feasting wolves were broken by the bangs of gunshots. The driver of the truck climbed out and began shooting at the group, trying to protect his companion. Enraged, a wolf from the pack leaped at him, barking and biting at his arm. The shooting soldier punched the wolf in the muzzle, making it whimper and recoil. Retaliating, a second wolf leaped at him. He aimed the pistol at it and shot it in the eye. The wolf let out a howl of pain as it fell back.

A howl int he distance broke the mini war between the soldier and the wolves. Ears perked, the wolves regrouped and ran off in the direction of the howl, the darkest of the dark mist following them.   Panting, the surviving soldier climbed over and jumped down to the side where his companion lay. All that was left was a skeleton with a punctured skull the had tiny chunks of flash clinging to it. Farther away from the body was his companion's dog tags. The soldier grasped the dog tags in his fist, pulling them close to his chest in a period of silence.

This silence was broken by movement under the truck. Startled, the soldier pulled up his gun and shot in the direction of the back. The dark shadow that ad stuck out shot back into the darkness of the truck's underside. The soldier motioned to shoot again, but the pistol was jammed.

"Dammit." He muttered under his breath. The shadow peeped out from under the truck again, revealing a snout. The soldier crawled over to the snout, and began coaxing it to come out. "It's okay..." He whispered softly. The snout slowly grew in size to become a head, then shoulders, then a full body. This beast was huge! Before him stood a large black wolf, like the ones he had just fought off. But it was different.  He stood to examine it. It's body was an obsidian black, with luminescent blue eyes, and two symmetrical blue lines running down its back, forming an arrow at the base of it's bushy tail. These line glowed... He slowly crept closer, sticking his hand in front of its snout.  "Well, your a certainly not like the others. those markings... are those..."
