*Sophie's POV*

When school finally came around, I was excited for it to start. Why? Because it meant the countdown to real life had finally started. I'd be out within a year and off to uni. I could get away from here, away from Luke's shadow. I was cheerful as I hummed to myself while I got dressed. Calum would get here within an hour. I had butterflies as I thought of him and I shook them off. I was his best friend now, as was he mines. We couldn't get involved with each other. I shook my head before getting dressed in a pair of capri pants and a white tee with a sweater on top since it was still cold. It wouldn't get warmer for another month or two. I brushed my hair and put it in a braid before heading downstairs to grab some breakfast. I had just finished brushing my teeth when Calum sent me a text that he was here. I grabbed my bag and headed outside, smiling at the fool who was playing air guitar to the radio.

"You're such a dork," I giggled, getting in his car. He shook his head, singing along to Taylor Swift's 'Wildest Dreams'.

"Say you'll remember me standing in a nice dress, Staring at the sunset, babe, Red lips and rosy cheeks, Say you'll see me again, Even if it's in your wildest dreams, oh, ah, wildest dreams, oh, ah," he sang to me, still playing his guitar. I shook my head, laughing before I joined him.

We sang all the way to school, kicking off our new and last year off right by acting like a bunch of fools. When we got there, I was in a good mood. I was with my bestie all morning and he bought me coffee from the Mickey Dee's down the road. We went inside to pick up our schedules and we had classes together every other period, except lunch. We groaned when we say that. Having the same lunch period with him was always fun with him. I shrugged it off and we split up to head to our lockers. I put up the majority of my textbooks, only keeping the two I'd need for this morning.

I met Cal at the classroom and he gave me a grin as we went inside and sat down in the rear corner. I was next to the wall, where I liked it and Cal lounged next to me. I was half paying attention to everyone when I noticed the new girl come in. Normally, I wouldn't have cared, but this girl looked completely lost. She searched the room for a chair before she came and sat down in front of me, sinking down in her chair. I felt bad that she felt alone. I could see it in her body language and nudged Cal with my foot. I motioned to her with my head.

"Talk to her," I muttered. Cal nodded and reached forward to tap her shoulder. She jumped and turned around, giving him a shaky smile.

"Hi, I'm Calum and this is my best friend, Sophie," he greeted. I gave her a comforting smile.

"Hi," I said, slightly drawing out the i. She smiled and giggled.

"I'm Abigail," she said. "But you can call me Abby." I nodded.

"You new?" I asked, even though I already knew the answer. I've never seen this girl before and I notice everyone. She gave me a grimace.

"Is it that painfully obvious?" she asked, fiddling with a strand of her hair. I smiled at her, nodding slightly. "I just moved her from the States."

"It's ok though. We've all been new at one point!" Calum interjected. "Not to mention you're friends with us now!" I snorted at Calum's eagerness and kicked him.

"Try not to scare the poor girl! She's been here for five minutes, Cal!" I laughed. He flushed a bit and shrugged.

"She'll get used to it," he bluntly stated, throwing a stray piece of paper at my head. I glared at him.

"Boy, you did not just-" I was interrupted by another paper ball that was flung at my face. This boy. "Fine, asshole!" I muttered before tearing out a sheet of paper myself and aiming it at his head, giving him a satisfied smirk when it hit him square in the face. Abby was in tears with laughter from her chair. Cal and I looked at each other before getting another sheet of paper. She was assaulted with paper balls. The teacher waltzed in, clearing his throat as he spared us an irritated look. First day of school and we already were getting into shit.

Class went by quickly and I think the teacher regretted us letting us pick our seats because the three of us were just dying in the back. I pray that we don't get detention. As the day went on, Abby and I pretty much had every class together. Not that I minded; she was great to talk to and we just clicked. I was ecstatic to have another friend, especially since she was a girl and we'd be able to go do girly shit together now that I had someone else to do it with.

When lunch rolled by, she and I linked arms and headed down to the cafe together. We grabbed lunch and found a table. We never seemed to run out of things to talk about and I was almost disappointed when it came to an end because we were split up the next period. That class seemed to pass by more slowly, especially since I didn't have Abby or Calum with me. It was alright though. It was just a writing class so I was pretty occupied. Abby nearly tackled me when class was over and I was glad. This girl was great and she made me feel loved after a few hour of knowing her.

Our next few classes went by pretty quickly, Cal, Abbs and I joking around the entire time. Lord have mercy on these teachers. I couldn't help but relish in the company of my best friend and probably soon to be best friend. The second to last period of the day, news spread of a welcome back to school dance on Friday. Abigail thought it'd be fun and be a good chance to hang out after school so she tried to convince me to go. I said I'd go if Calum went and Calum fell for puppy dog eyes so I got wrangled into going to the dance.

On the last period, before we were released for the day, Abigail and I switched numbers, promising to make plans to hang out the night of the dance and help each other get ready. God, I was excited for that. I couldn't do that kind of stuff with Cherie now because she was off working and doing school work. But we still talked when she had free time.

Calum gave me a ride home. I offered for him to stay for dinner, but he had to go. I pouted but hugged him goodbye. He pecked my forehead before saying that he'd pick me up in the morning. I smiled before shooing him off, watching as the tan boy drove farther and farther away from me, missing him a bit even though I knew I'd see the stupid boy in a few hours.

*Calum's POV*

After I left Sophie at her house, I drove home and headed inside. My parents wanted me home because they were wanted Mali and I to take care of the house while they were in New Zealand for some cousin of mine's wedding. As far as I knew, Mali was supposed to be on a date tonight so it would be me all alone. For dinner, I decided to make my personal favorite: spaghetti with garlic toasties. I began to hum to myself as I rolled up my sleeves. I got out the angel hair and sauce. I placed the angel hair in the water and set it to boil before turning on the oven. Then, I got out the flour, added some water and began to knead away. I formed little dough balls and placed them on a pan before throwing them in the oven. I set a timer for them to bake before I got out butter and garlic powder. When the noodles were nearly cooked, I set the sauce in a pan and let it simmer a bit before adding a few different spices. It didn't take too long for the sauce to be done. I covered it before checking on what was soon to be my toasties. They were nearly ready. I took the noodles off the flame and drained them before tasting the sauce once more. Then I pulled out the bread and set the tray on the other half of the stove. I grabbed the stick of butter and dragged it across the surface of the toast before sprinkling garlic powder on top. I served myself a plate and was about to sit down to eat when there was a knock on my door.

I got up, grumbling, and was tempted just to sit back down. But then I was concerned it might be Mali so I went to answer it. I complained the entire way to the door.

"Hey, mate! Long time, no see," he said. Michael fucking Clifford. His hair was bright red and his eyes were as hazel as ever and they held happiness as he stared at me. Too many emotions and thoughts flooded my body, sending me momentarily into shock, before I shook my head and glared at him. He opened his arms for a hug, a grin on his face.

I pulled my arm back and punched him square in the jaw. He went down with an oomph.

"What the hell mate?" he snapped, glaring at me. I rolled my eyes and glared back.

"Exactly! WHAT THE HELL?"
