Author's pov

"No..."

She murmured in her sleep.

"No..."

Her forehead was drenched in sweat.

"No... please..."

Her head moved from side to side in panic.

Suddenly-

"No... Zohair!"

She screamed and jolted upright, gasping for air. Her chest rose and fell rapidly as she struggled to breathe.

"Yashal... Yashal..."

She looked up.

Taemoor was holding her face, searching her frightened eyes.

"Are you okay? Did you have a nightmare?"

Without answering, she threw herself into his arms and hugged him tightly.

"Shhh..." he whispered, rubbing her back. "Calm down. It was only a dream."

She closed her eyes, trying to convince herself it wasn't real.

"I... I saw..."

"Don't tell me." He kissed her forehead. "It was just a bad dream. That's all."

She slowly pulled away and looked toward the crib.

Zohair was sleeping peacefully.

With trembling hands, she picked him up, kissed both his cheeks, then his tiny eyelids.

Taemoor silently watched her.

He understood.

The nightmare had been about their son.

"He's here, Yashal." His voice was soft. "He's safe. He's with us... and we're with him."

Still facing away from him, she nodded.

She sat on the edge of the bed.

Taemoor handed her a glass of water.

"I can't sleep anymore." She whispered. "I'll pray Tahajjud."

She walked into the washroom while Taemoor lay back on the bed.

Sleep never returned easily after being disturbed like this.

A few minutes later, Yashal came back.

She spread the prayer mat.

Opening the window slightly, she looked up at the night sky and took a deep breath.

Then she began to pray.

Taemoor watched her quietly.

She looked beautiful whenever she stood before Allah.

The silence...

The stillness...

The serenity of every movement...

Everything about her felt peaceful.

After finishing her prayer with tasleem, she looked toward Zohair.

Her lips moved silently as she recited verses.

She gently blew over him.

Then she did the same toward Taemoor.

He chuckled softly.

A little later, she sat reciting the Qur'an.

Not a single unnecessary word escaped her lips.
