Chapter 11: Lost

----------------------------------------------------------Vlad's POV-----------------------------------------------------------

Crack.

Crack.

Crack.

Crack.

Groooaaaan.

Boom!

Timber! Whatever...

"I'm going to kill him!" I snarled and punched thick trees again and again. Wood split and tried to bury into my skin; I won that battle each and every time.

We'd lost them. The trail was gone-as if he'd teleported somewhere. But what vampire could do that? Fallen trees were scattered around us, unevenly carpeting the ground. My destruction.

"I've never heard of this happening before." Victoria sighed while Maria oggled at the damage I was causing to the surrounding forest, "They're here and then poof! they're not!"

My hits intensified in force.

"I don't think you're making him feel any better." the little Drokaslov thought aloud.

Victoria looked at me then back at her, "Sorry, Maria."

"Maria," my voice was harsh with anger and I stopped mutilating the wood, "thank you for your help, but I don't believe there's much more you can do. Go back to the party."

She looked between my sister and I with wide, slate grey eyes. "I can't help?"

"You already have." I clenched my jaw.

"Being here-or anywhere near us, for that matter-any longer will put you at risk." Victoria added far more gently.

Maria was silent for a long time, deep in thought. "Fine." her little arms crossed over her underdeveloped chest, "But I don't like it. That guy didn't seem like any other vampire."

"He's not." Victoria blurted. Immediately, she covered her mouth her eyes wide with shock.

I rounded on her like a cobra. "What do you know?!"

"Nothing!" Those white hands dropped and cringed near her bosom.

"Victoria, I swear to God-don't lie to me!"

"I'm not!" she stepped back while I advanced on her.

"You are!" I shouted in her face, "What do you know, sister?!" I was heaving for air, not being able to get enough oxygen in this enraged state of mine. As it was, my entire body was quivering.

"Nothing! I swear, Vladimir, I know nothing!"

I was so close to leaping on her and quite possibly beating my own shared blood to near death.

A sense of calm wiggled its way into my mind. Once in, I could not execute it. "Maria," I clenched my jaw, "stop this right now."

"You're on the verge of killing her, my prince." she started.
