...

When my alarm started blaring in my ears the next morning, the urge to smash it with a baseball bat overcame me. I was up till 2 am finishing an English report. Damn you procrastination.
I dragged my ass out of bed, half fell asleep in the shower, and got dressed in my usual black t-shirt and dark jeans and  put on my favourite pair of skull earrings. Gotta dress to impress.
I drove myself to school in my super old, double hand me down Hyundai (my older sister Lexi had got it before me, and gave it to me when she left for college.) I pulled into the school parking lot at 8:29, exactly 26 seconds before the bell rings. Yup, late as usual. I sprinted to algebra and slid into my seat just as the bell sounded. Nice. I heard the popular twats snickering behind me and turned around and snarled at them. That shut them up.
The whole class went on as usual, Mr. Norton rambling on about equations that very well might have been in another language. God, I hate math. A million years later when the bell sounded, I grabbed my stuff and basically swan dived out the door. I heard a voice behind me call my name. I whirled around in surprise. What the hell? I don't have any friends, who is that? "Tori!" I heard again, pinpointing the source of the sound. It was Christina Walker. She's a year younger than me, and little sister to Megan Walker, top bitch and queen bee of the juniors. She was the evil to end all evils at Rosedale high.
"Hey!" said Christina catching up to me. "You're Tori right? The detective?"
I wasn't used to being known as the detective around here. Mostly, I was known as a loser.
"Um, yeah?" I replied.
"Well, uh, I kind of, well my family, needs your help."
Really? I had never been hired at school before.
"Uh ok sure, what's the case"
"Well, my father is a lawyer"
(A very rich one) "And his case files keep disappearing. We don't know how it keeps happening, we're all pretty scared."
"And you want me to solve the mystery?"
"Well, yeah pretty much."
" Ok, well I'm gonna need more information that that if I'm gonna be snooping around."
" Come over to our house today after school and we can fill you in."
"Ok cool, I'll see you today then."
"Awesome!" She said scribbling her address on a scrap of paper. See you tonight!
I felt a burst of energy rub through me. A mystery! I hadn't solved one in months!!
I squirmed through all my classes eager to hear the last bell.
When it sounded, I jumped into my car and began backing out of the parking lot, when a flash of brownish blonde hair caught my eye.
Caleb Miller.
The most popular guy in school.
I hated to admit it, but I had had a crush on him since grade 7. He was a jock, of course, quarterback on the football team, but unlike the other popular kids, he was actually nice. We had been partners on a science project last year, because we had both been sick the day partners were assigned and we ended up together. He was really sweet.
I managed to pull his strong jawline and thick lashes out of my brain before I pulled up to the Walkers house.
