The buzz of the alarm jolted him from sleep. Kurt groaned and flicked his tail, hitting the 'off' button on his alarm. Mornings were his least favorite time of the day, the agony of having to pull himself out of his warm sheets, unsticking his fur from the pillow after drooling all over it... He couldn't be the prettiest sight in the morning; he was scary enough as it is.
Pulling on his shirt and shorts, he stumbled out of bed, grabbing his soap, toothbrush and toothpaste as he made his way out of the room towards the dorm's bathroom.
His mother used to say that a good wash could clarify any problem, and she was right. The steamy water poured over his body, washing away some of the nerves and soothing his mind. Margali Szardos, his mother - or at least, the only mother he's ever known, was the fortune teller at the circus and the wisest woman that he knew. Her lessons had stuck with him all through his life, even after the incident... He sighed and rinsed the soap off of his body, savoring the last few moments of heat and warmth before he stepped out to dry off.
'I need a haircut...' He caught a glimpse of himself in the mirror that was slowly clearing. What was once a neat old-fashioned-movie-star cut, was now becoming scraggly and unkempt, he dried it with the towel and ran his hand through it, pushing it off of his face.

"Hey Kurt!" Aurora caught up to him in the line for breakfast, grabbing a plate and scooping some scrambled eggs onto it.
"Guten morgen liebling." He smiled and took a few pieces of toast, "How are you?"
"Great!" She seemed excitable today, like she couldn't stay still. "I have a surprise for you."
"Oh really? Should ve go somevhere more private?" He grinned and raised and eyebrow at her, elbowing her side jokingly as they looked for somewhere to sit.
Aurora's voice distorted as she scoffed at him, "No! Not that sort of surprise.. whatever that means... You'll see later!"
Kurt shrugged as they sat down together. He wondered what she had in store for him, he'd never been given a surprise before...
***
"Aw come on liebling, do you have to cover mein eyes?" Kurt found himself stumbling across the institute grounds with his girlfriend's hands over his eyes; he was sure that he was on the field walking towards the trees.
He heard her laughing, "Well, yeah, it's all part of the fun silly!"
They walked like this (despite Kurt's protests) for a while longer, until Aurora told him to stop.
"Okay, so, this was Kitty, Piotr, and Jubilee's idea as well as mine... Kind of a 'welcome back to the land of the living' present. Are you ready?"
Kurt grinned, "Ja..."
She removed her hands and he squinted as his eyes adjusted to the light. When they finally focused he was faced with... Nothing. 'What am I supposed to be looking at?! Oh no, say something, sagen sie etwas bald!' (say something soon!)
"Uhhh..." He could feel his face flushing as he struggled to find what he was looking for. Aurora pushed her way into a hug with him.
"Look up, you goofball." She chuckled and he looked up into the trees. Anchored by two huge pine trees with the branches cut back, were two platforms about thirty foot high. There were two sets of ladders bolted to the thick tree trunks - not that he'd need them anyway.
"Mein gott... Is zhis vhat I zhink zhat it is?!" He turned to Aurora who was studying his reaction with a small smile on her lips. He grinned, wrapping his hands around her, holding her tight against him.
*Bamf*
They were thirty feet above the ground and Kurt relished being this high up again, on the platform; it was even better with the girl of his dreams clinging onto him. She pushed him against the trunk of the tree, white as a sheet.
"KURT!" He could feel her shaking like a leaf as she pressed as close to him as possible. It didn't take genius to figure out that she was afraid. He wrapped his tail tight around her.
"Hey, it's okay. I've got you..." He buried his face against her hair, she smelled good, like coconut and honey... He had to understand, despite the thickness of the tree trunk, it did still sway slightly. Even back in the circus the metal poles moved in the smallest breeze.
"You von't fall. I von't let you. I promise."
"Give me some warning next time... Jeez..." Her big green eyes looked up into his and she burst into laughter. "Just don't let me look down."
He laughed too, "You're afraid of heights?"
"Not really, it makes me shaky and nauseous; but once the adrenaline kicks in, it's kinda fun."
Kurt grinned and un-wedged himself from between Aurora and the tree trunk. "So do you vant a go?" He crouched down on the edge of the platform, looking at the wire, he twanged the thick steel wire, watching it flex all of the way to the other side. It was great quality, better than some that he used in the circus. The wire was built to last, they were smart to use braided steel instead of rope.
"Nuh-uh. No way will you get me on that. We built it for you..."
He sat down to take off his shoes. It was always easier barefoot for him, and he could understand why; shoes always constricted his feet because they weren't made for guys with three toes, with one of them being on his heel. He stretched out his toes and turned off his image inducer, looking back at Aurora who smiled sweetly at him. She was sat with her back against the tree, legs outstretched.
Taking the first step onto the wire was like taking a step into his past. His tail whipped out behind him, keeping his balance. One foot in front of the other... The ground swam below him and he sucked in a deep breath of crisp autumn air.
And then he jumped.
The twists and flips came naturally to him, his feet placing themselves back onto the wire as if there was no way that it could possibly go wrong. Soon he reached the opposite platform, turning to face Aurora as she stared at him, wide eyed.
*Bamf*
He was face to face with her, the adrenaline surging through him made him feel as though he was on top of the world.
"Kurt, you're..." Her voice was breathless, she was so close...
"Zhe best?" He smiled as she nodded, his mind clouding.
He could feel her soft breath against him, it would just be so easy to move his lips a little closer... No he shouldn't. He needed to tell her. But she had other ideas...
The kiss was slow, passionate, and needy. He felt her arms around his neck and he allowed his to pull her closer.
"Hey elf!" Logan's voice split him from the kiss and he sighed in frustration. "You wanna go somewhere else to make out with yer missus?"
He looked at Aurora who was giggling quietly, her face a bright shade of red. "Vant to go somevhere else?" He laughed as she agreed; grabbing his shoes, he wrapped his arms around her.
"Ready?"
