CHAPTER TWENTY ONE: New Arrivals

Amara Abdullahi

Life, it's just one word but it holds so much meaning behind it. But when you see someone coming to life, it could be the most beautiful thing in the world. Like right now, I'm sitting in the waiting room with Hamid, Mahirah, Zubair, Jamal and Ahmed. I'm still so confused about what happened earlier. Ugh just thinking about it makes my head hurt! "How is she!?" Nur asked as he stormed into the waiting room.  "She's in the room right now, I'm pretty sure you could go in there." Hamid replied as he pointed in Amran's direction. Nur quickly said thanks before rushing into the room at full speed.

A bunch of nurses walked out of Amran's room with smiles on their faces. I quickly got out of my seat and approached them. "Is it okay if we go in?" I asked nervously. "Yes, only a couple of people at a time." A nurse replied as she gave us a gentle smile. Hamid, Mahirah and I walked inside the room anxiously only to see Amran holding the baby in her hands. I walked closer and saw the most beautiful baby I have ever seen in her arms. "Oh my gosh, she has your eyes," I said as a tear rolled down my cheek. I never understood it when people talked about love at first sight, but now I think I do because this baby already had my heart.

Amran smiled at me with tears in her eyes as well. "You want to hold her?" She asked as she brought the baby closer to me. I slowly picked her up in my arms and rocked her back and fourth slowly. "Hi baby. It's Aunty Amara, I am going to be the best Aunty ever." I cooed, while holding her. "Can I see her?" Hamid asked, while stretching his arms. I put her gently in his arms then turned around to Amran.

"We named her Juwayriah." Nur said with a five mile smile on his face.

"I'm sad. I don't want her to be cuter than me!" Mahirah pouted as she stared at the baby. "No one can be cuter than you," I said as put an arm around her shoulder. After a while we left Amran and Nur with Juwariyah and I started walking around the hospital. It's something about hospitals that makes me feel sad. People could lose their lives in these very walls, and life could be given as well. I always wanted to be a doctor and do whatever I can to save lives. I want to be able to do things that impact lives. I want to treat people like my mom and find a cure for cancer. I silently walked over to a bench and put my head in my hands

I still have to figure out what I'm going to do about the mysterious caller...

What am I supposed to do? How am I supposed to find my father? I made it pretty clear that I never want to see his face again. I also don't want anything bad to happen to him. He may be a horrible person but at the end of the day he is my father. I suddenly felt someone gently tap on my shoulder but I didn't respond. I just wanted to be left alone. "Amara?" Amir asked as he looked at me worriedly.
