Farkle's pov

After I told riley I knew something bad would happen. So I went to check on her that night. I found her in her room on her bed. I lightly tapped on the window and she turned to me. She had puffy eyes and wet cheeks from crying. She walked over to the window and let me in. I climbed in and joined her back on her bed. She was ripping up pictures of her and lucas, and there were a lot of them.

"Riley I'm sorry you had to find out that way." I say softly, kind of afraid that she'll take her anger out on me.

"It's okay, really. It's better to know and be able to break up with lucas, then still date him and not know he's cheating."

"Riley, I still feel really bad you have to go through this-"

"Shut up!" She yells. I jump a little. Lord that scared me.

"Riley-"

"Seriously shut up!" Now I'm scared again. "Farkle, you don't have to feel bad for me. I've been through this before and I can do it again."

"Still I-"

"Seriously, farkle stop. You don't need to pity me because of this. I always end up okay in the end. And I understand why you had to tell me, because your my friend. It's just what friends do for eachother."

"So, will you go back to him again? I mean, date him after this." I ask. Now I'm scared she's gonna snap again.

"No, not this time."

"Wait, really?" Now I'm curious.

"Yeah. I'm not gonna give him another chance to hurt me. I'm done." I feel a bit of relief run through me.

"So what are you gonna do now?"

"Well, in the meantime, I'm going to get rid of all these pictures. Wanna help?" She smiles a little. And just seeing her smile, makes me smile.

"Sure." I say.

For the next half hour we tore apart her room finding any pictures of her and lucas, ripping the up, putting them on a dart board, or anything bad really. Once we finished she sat down at the bay window and patted the spot next to her. I sat down and looked at her room.

"Lucas free, huh?" I say. She giggles, which i love.

"Oh my god." She says.

"What?"

She picks up a picture off the floor and shows it to me.

"This is from the semi-formal in eighth grade, with Sheppard." I say.

"Yep. When it was still the four best friends. Before everything went wrong." She smiles at the picture.

I study our faces in the picture. We all look like we're having a blast. Our arms wrapped around eachother with huge smiles. When everthing was so much simpler.

"Remeber when Maya interrupted our 'dance'?"she says with a laugh.

"Yeah, but it was still okay, she was riley or maya." She laughs again.

"Well, wanna dance?" She says. I raise an eyebrow.

"As friends?" I ask, kinda unsure.

"No, as an elderly couple. Of course as friends!" I laugh, though i wouldn't have minded that first one.

She takes my hand and winks, making me laugh. She puts her arms around my neck and i put my hands on her waist, hesitating. She laughs, probably because she can tell I'm nervous. But she is probably totally comfortable, because she just likes me as a friend. She steps closer and leans her head on my shoulder.

So, at 11:45pm, in her bedroom, with the moon shining through her window into her dark, lucas-free room, we danced around whispering and chatting, just like years before.

Yeah. As friends.

---------------------------

The next day at school riley sat with maya and me instead of lucas and his friends like before. We chatted just how we did before lucas even came to our school in the first place. Laughing, commenting on my old turtlenecks, and talking about what we used to do together. Maya and I made sure not to bring up lucas, fearful we would either make riley upset, or she would attack us.

Everything was fine until lucas walked up to me. That's when maya and I really had something to fear.
