I rushed my way through the large doors to the infirmary, worry etched into all of my being. Why didn't Kain reach out to me? Drayden didn't do this, could he? I turned to talk to the nurse, when my mother's hand grabbed my arm, stopping me short.

"They are doing all they can." She said softly, her lips pulled down in a small frown.

"What happened? Where are Kain and Drayden?" I growled out breathlessly.

"Our guard reported seeing them flee the scene. We have reason to believe they did this." She said running her hand through her hair.

"Where?" I said trying to look past her.

"None of your concern, go to your room. They are still loose." She said pulling me away from the room.

"Where were they seen mother?" I practically yelled, steeling my resolve.

"We are fast in pursuit Queen." Captain Gauld called as he walked up to us.

"Good, take me with you." I said turning to them.

"Enough Kaliah, you are not part of the guard." Noel replies rage filling her voice. "We can handle this."

"Noel, take me with you. There is obviously no time to argue." I said looking into her eyes.

"We aren't arguing Kaliah. You are staying here." My mother says, stepping beside Gauld. "Go. Kill them both. Make it quick."

All three of the Guard Captain's including Noel, sprinted full speed out the door then. I turned, mouth open at my mother's orders. She wouldn't kill a visiting Prince. That would be an act of war. Especially to a Kingdom we are already having trouble with. Before I could comment further, my mother turned back into the infirmary. She slammed the doors shut, leaving me standing in the corridor alone.

I have to know for myself. There has to be more to this than meets the eye. I decided then to go despite their words. I turned quickly, and went to my room. I changed into my dark blue armor, preparing myself for whatever might come of this. I grabbed my sword, and bolted out of the room. I turned a corner and ran straight into Bolten.

"Nice armor." He says admiring the white gold accents. His hands were firmly planted on my elbows, the force of the impact almost knocking me over.

"Thank you. Now if you'll excuse me." I said trying to pull out of his grasp. This is wasting time. The guard is already ahead of me.

"Where are you running off to at this hour? It's starting to get late Princess." He says smiling down at me, refusing to release me. I quickly explained to him what had happened. "I thought he pledged himself to Drayden?' He said with a questioning look.

"Looks like that wasn't enough..." I replied angrily. He finally released me, and I took off around him. I ran straight for the stables, and grabbed Melody.

I quickly mounted her, and rushed off into the darkening woods.

After twenty minutes of hard riding, I finally heard the soft clang of metal meeting metal. I turned my head in the direction of the sound. They have to be far if it is that quiet. I cursed, pulling Melody's reigns in the direction of the noise, hoping I wouldn't be too late. As the sound got louder, my heart started pounding in my chest at what I will see when I come upon the battle.

As I broke the small clearing, the first thing I noticed was Noel standing at the other end, shooting arrows into the fray, only barely missing their mark each time.
