Anya POV

2 weeks, 1 day, 13 hours and 27 minutes. That's how long I have had to stay with my asshole of a brother and his stupid coven. I gave up trying to break her containment spell; it just used up valuable energy. I had claimed the entire attic for myself and sealed the trapdoor that led to the rest of the house. I didn't want any unwanted visitors to come into my room when I was this mad. There would no doubt be a massacre if anyone came into my sight right now. I was fuming, furious that I had been trapped with such a pathetic spell. It was one of those spells that started out weak then absorbed power from other spells attacking it. Unfortunately I had attacked it with everything I had at first, making it basically indestructible. Of course that would be my luck.

I huffed as I began preparing a salad in the kitchen I had made in my room. My room was basically an apartment with all the necessities. Even though I had blocked the door, the annoying sounds of the coven downstairs was getting on my nerves. Their annoying, whining voices filtered through the door, making me want to tear my hair out. I should have just forced Phoenix to come with me when I had the chance, then I wouldn't be in this situation. As the infuriating buzz of voices from downstairs increased, I felt a small stab of pity pierce my heart. I had left Phoenix with those annoying assholes for almost a decade after I had our parents killed. During their fight, I had infused Phoenix with more energy than her young body could handle, making it explode outwards in a sheet of flames. I had made sure to leave a feeling of mistrust in the minds of the rest of the coven so they would hate her afterwards. I had hoped she would run away and join me and my plan would have been so much easier.

I thought of that man who had helped me escape. I only knew him as "Alpha". He refused to tell me his real name, but I didn't really care. He convinced Darryl to send his pack after my parents when I promised them an easy target. When he captured Phoenix, I knew our plan would work. She would kill the bastard one way or another and the blame would be all on her. Now Alpha had his eyes set on the other one. The one under her protection. This was going to be interesting I thought as I took a big bite of lettuce and spinach. If I can get out of here before I die of old age.

Sam POV

"We've got a major problem." Hunter said, his eyes filled with worry.

"What's going on?" I asked, watching his nervous hands wring as he started to pace.

"Phoenix is about to go into hibernation." He said with a straight face. I couldn't help it; I laughed and the other guys started to laugh too. I mean come on, hibernation? Really?

"Guys, I'm serious!! Apparently she was injected with too much witch hazel and it's going to put her body into hibernation until it's all gone." At the word witch hazel, we stopped, staring at him confused.

"And apparently it could take months until she recovers unless we can figure out how to remove it from her blood." He continued, finally stopping his pacing and looking at us.

"How do we do that?" Jace asked.

"I don't know, the book didn't say."

We all looked at each other until Jace sighed.

"I'll try it." He said in response to our silent question.

"Wait what are you going to do?" Hunter asked confused, looking between us as he tried to catch up.

"Jace is going to try and remove the witch hazel from her blood." I said in an obvious tone.

"Ok, but how is he going to do that?" He asked impatiently. Jace bared his fangs in a grim smile.

"By sucking it out." I said with a dark grin.

Unknown POV

"Sir, the vampires are confirmed to be at their mansion with Phoenix and Hunter." My beta whispered in his raspy voice. I nodded without looking up. I already knew this, but I appreciated his report nonetheless.

"But there is a new development, sir." He said and I nodded at him to continue. "Phoenix appears to have some sort of illness that is overloading her body. It appears that Darryl overdosed her on witch hazel, causing her body to go into survival mode."

I frowned and looked up at the man standing still as a statue, staring at some far off point, not daring to meet my eyes. Only the tiny twitches of his hands showed his apprehension as I stared at him.

"Very well. Is that all?" I asked. He nodded mutely and I dismissed him. As soon as he left I let out an annoyed sigh and turned back to the papers  on my desk. The idiot, I had told him to do whatever he wanted to her except witch hazel. I couldn't use her if she was unconscious for months. I closed my eyes and rubbed my temples. Was it really that hard to follow one simple instruction? I looked up as another knock came from the door. I called for them to enter and my spy walked in with silent grace and skill.

"Alpha, we have located Anya but she is irretrievable. She is held captive with the rest of the Night coven in some remote mountains in Northern Canada. The barrier surrounding the house is indestructible and impenetrable. Anya herself cannot break it. We presume it was created by Phoenix before she left. She managed to get in touch through rather unorthodox ways." The spy snorted in contempt as I nodded.

"Let me know if anything changes." Nodding their head in respect, they glided silently through the door. Unorthodox means? Lord only knows what that meant. I sighed as I went back to the papers on my desk.

Hunter POV

I watched as Jace convinced a drowsy Phoenix to sit on the couch. Her body was starting to shut down and we only had a few hours at the most until it shut down completely. He gently shook her, trying to get her to focus, but her eyes were glazed over and she didn't seem to be able to focus on anything. With a sigh, he moved her crimson hair to the side and gently bit into her neck. His eyes were closed in concentration as Phoenix feebly shoved against his body, trying to stop him.

After what seemed like ages, Jace lifted his head from her neck, quickly licking the wound shut. Her eyes were still glazed, but she slowly started to move, cautiously turning her head towards us. Jace had opened the window and was gagging and spitting out the witch hazel he had ingested. We watched with bated breath as Phoenix slowly stood up, her legs shaking slightly from the effort. She shook her head quickly and squeezed her eyes shut. Once she reopened them, I had to fight back a gasp. The normally red color of her eyes was literally flames. Slowly, licks of fire ran down her hair and the tips of her fingers were lit like candles. Warily, I inched back, not wanting to be too close to the growing flames.

She cracked her neck, the popping sounds echoing throughout the room. Jace finally stood back up, wiping his mouth one last time before turning back to us. Witch hazel may not burn a vampire as it does a witch, but that doesn't mean it tastes very good. Once again Phoenix closed her eyes and took a deep breath, the flames slowly dying out.  She turned to Jace and gave him a hug before turning back to the rest of us. We were all just standing there watching her, waiting for any signs of fatigue.

"Thanks guys. If I had known what was happening I would have warned you. I'm sorry to scare you like that." She said with an apologetic smile. She turned to Jace who was standing as still as a statue, his eyes still glued to her neck. It must have taken all his control to have just removed the hazel and not drink her blood.

"It's ok Jace, go drink. I'm fine now." She said, lightly nudging him with her arm. He swiftly turned and ran out of the room without a backwards glance.

"Who's up for some monopoly?" She asked with a grin.
