Phoenix POV
There was something warm beneath me. I shifted trying to get comfy on my pillow but it seemed to be an impossible task. I could hear soft whispers all around me along with quiet laughter. I opened my eyes slowly just to find myself curled up in Hunter's lap. The vampires were all staring and laughing while Hunter looked like he wasn't sure what to do. I sat up slowly and stretched. The sun was rising and the sky was a soft pale pink with orange streaks and white clouds with purple tints.
I turned to Hunter to apologize for falling asleep in his lap when the car just stopped. I looked at Sam who was driving just to see that he looked as baffled as I was. Slowly, we all got out of the car and the instant I stepped foot on the ground I felt it. A powerful warding spell had been placed around this area and it blocked any supernatural beings from entering. I tapped my chin for a while, trying to figure out the best way to get past the barrier. I knew the spell well as I had placed one along with Andre on the Coven house, so I knew that they were practically impossible to breach.
I groaned and sat down on the ground. The others just stared at me until Tyler asked, "So what do we do now?"
I sighed and got up. I walked to the barrier and put my hand on it. The power was immense and any normal witch or warlock would have been fried to ashes right now. I looked at Hunter with a calculating look. Maybe we could break it together? He noticed me staring and gave me a questioning look.
"Why are you looking at me like that?"
"I was just wondering if we could break through the wards together. I mean, we are both demutadors and I have my necklace so why not?"
He thought about it for a second then agreed. I looked at the others and told them to stand back. It would end badly if they got too close when we performed this spell.
We joined hands and started to chant. I could feel the others eyes on us but I ignored them. I was on the point of breaking and I knew that Hunter was as well but just before we collapsed, the wards shattered and disappeared. We lay there gasping for breath. This was the work of an incredibly powerful demutador and I was nervous as to how the pack had managed to get such a powerful warlock to work for them. Casting that spell alone could have killed a weaker warlock but that meant that we were up against someone who was even more powerful then I was.
I froze as I sensed someone coming through the woods. The power this person held was amazing. My worst fears were confirmed as Anya stepped out of the forest with a glare on her face directed at me and Hunter who was still breathing heavily. Anya was the most powerful demutador in the whole world; fittingly, her demuté was a king cobra. She was as fast and deadly as a snake. It wasn't the most impressive animal but she was still the most powerful of us all. The vampires behind us had frozen as well and were just staring at her. I knew that they could sense her power as well but they didn't recognize her as well as I did. My power was second only to hers and while people were scared of me they were absolutely terrified of her.
Hunter looked scared as he moved closer to me.
"Who is that?" he whispered in a small voice choked by fear.
"Anya." I answered just as quietly. The vampires all let out a small gasp at the same time and I would have burst out laughing if it wasn't for the dire situation that I was no doubtfully expected to get us out of.
"Why hello there Phoenix. What are you doing here? Did you come all the way here just to visit me? Awwwww, you shouldn't have." She laughed in a musical voice laced with a deadly undertone.
"Why Anya what a pleasant surprise! If I had known that you were going to be here I would have brought you something." I said sarcastically.
She laughed again, a tinkling sound that filled the air with an unnatural chill. I knew Anya all too well so I knew when she was about to strike. She had trained me after all. I jumped out of the way, taking Hunter with me as I dove away from the killing curse she had just directed at me. I leaped up and launched my own attack; a wave of knives made of fire shot towards her but she simply waved her hand and they disappeared. I flung my hand towards my small group of friends, launching them out of range of our spells. I flung curse after curse at her and she did the same for me. By this point, we were both panting a little and her hair the same shade as mine was plastered to her forehead with sweat. Mine was falling out of the high pony tail I had put it in before. She shot a bolt of lightning at me but I blocked it with a quick protection spell. Our powers clashed and began to fight for dominance.
I took a deep breath and started to summon fire to myself. I felt the streaks of fire run down my hair and I knew that my eyes would be glowing a crimson red by now. Slowly I started to sing. I hadn't sung since the day I killed my parents and I was terrified as my power started to swell. Just as it seemed that I was going to get the upper hand, she started to sing as well. It was too much for me. I sank into the darkness as I watched her smirk at my exhausted body.
Hunter POV
I stared in horror as Phoenix collapsed on the ground. I ran forward but was forced to the ground by Anya's spell. My body was frozen and I stared helplessly as she bound the others before they could run. She whispered a spell and everything went black.
