Jaguar - What So Not

I woke up to the beeping of my alarm. I hit the off switch, but buried my head into my pillow with a groan. The only thing that I still needed to get used to about public school was the whole waking up early everyday thing. I rolled over hesitantly.

"Hello world." I groaned staring at my ceiling. I pulled myself up out of bed before stepping into my bathroom for a shower. I sat in the cold trying to wake myself up as my teeth chattered.

Once I got out, my arms with goosebumps up and down, I dried with an old towel (since my dad never made time to get anything new) and changed into the outfit Lydia picked out. I smiled thinking that Lydia did a pretty good job and that maybe I should add some more girly pieces to my closet. I brushed my teeth and did my makeup routine. I made sure everything was packed for school and was unwrapping a piece of gum as I heard my dad call down to me.

"We're leaving now, Mac!" He said knocking on my door. I ran up the stairs as I popped the minty refreshment in my mouth. I followed him to the car and slid into the passengers seat. We rode to school singing to the song that was currently playing on the car radio. We pulled into the High Schools parking lot being one of the first cars on the lot.

"Do you mind bringing this to my office, I gotta talk to the principal," my dad asked handing me a gym bag. I nodded in response slinging the bag over my shoulder. I walked to his office throwing the bag in a corner. I organized his room a little bit before leaving through the boys locker room. I walked through the door to see a bunch of stunned high school boys. Some being almost half naked.

"Oh my god! What are you guys doing here?" I jumped at the sight, as some pulled back on their clothing.

"Morning practice." Danny told me politely.

"Oh that makes sense!" Why else would my dad be here so early I thought, face-palming.

"Who are you!" One boy asked rudely.

"I'm coach's daughter, sorry I completely blanked on practice." I said shyly as I held my hand over my eyes.

"Really," one shirtless boy came up to me, trying to take my hand away.

"Well bye!" I practically ran out of the door banging right into the energetic boy I met yesterday.

"Oh Stiles right? Sorry about that," I apologized walking past him as Scott let out a small laugh.

"Wait a sec!" Stiles called over his shoulder.

"What!" I sighed turning around. He looked me up and down one moment, but got straight to the point.

"First of all what happened to you and second of all, I know you're the coach's daughter, but what were you doing in the boys locker room."

"Umm I don't think anything happened? And how was I supposed to know about morning practice?" I asked putting my hand on my hip and leaning on one leg. I suddenly had all this confidence as I was talking to him.

"Something definitely happened! You're different from yesterday, you're more I don't know." Stiles said as he tugged a little at my leather sleeve. I realized he was talking about my outfit.

"Are you trying to say I wasn't pretty yesterday?" I asked slightly annoyed. I knew that Lydia had done me some justice, but I still found it rude that everyone had a sudden interest.

"No, no, but.."

"Stiles, that was pretty much what you were saying," Scott but in.

"Scott! Why?" Stiles asked turning to face Scott.

"Okay, thank you Stiles for saying how terrible I looked yesterday. It was a nice talk." I spun on my heel.

"But, Mac!" Stiles whined. I turned, but was walking backwards and I waved at him smiling and then turned back around. I went to the front of the school and took a seat on a bench to wait for Lydia. I pulled out my MP3 player and earbuds. I relaxed against the back of the bench and put in my headphones and listened to Jaguar by What so not, and slowly watched what kids were up to. Some students were studying, there were a few sitting and talking, a few boys were racing across the front of the school from one end to another. I saw a girl on another bench reading and slowly the school grounds started to fill with more students.

Suddenly a perfectly manicured finger tapped my shoulder. I jumped and pulled out my headphones.

"Mackenzie, let's go!" Lydia flipped her hair waiting for me. I shoved my headphones and MP3 player in my bag and slung it over my shoulder. I got up and followed her over to the pavement.

"This is lesson one, how to make an entrance. Focus on getting to the doors without distractions and keep strutting." Lydia explained and with that she strutted up to the main entrance, I followed her up.

I was focusing on the steps in front of me when I heard Stiles say, "Heyyy Lydia! You look like you're gonna ignore me."

I stopped to talk to Stiles, "it's okay Stiles she's not hearing anything except for her heels clicking against the ground."

"Whoa! Mac, so I'm sorry about earlier," I was about to say something when Lydia called me and I waved goodbye.

"No distractions Mackenzie, what did I tell you earlier!" Lydia glared at me when I met her at the top of the stairs.

"I'm sorry that I'm trying to meet new friends," I sighed dramatically following her into the school.

"Not with those two, I don't even think I know them." Lydia flipped her hair and turned towards her locker.

Mine was across the hall from hers. I opened it to take out my books for my first class, English. The day dragged on until lunch. Lydia tugged me and Allison over to a lunch table with a bunch of jocks. She sat down next to her pretty boy boyfriend and another player from the lacrosse team as Allison and I slid in next to the gay goalie, Danny. Lydia's boyfriend, Jackson gave her a sloppy kiss on the cheek.

"So we're coming to your practice babe," Lydia smiled looking up at Jackson.

"They're coming?" Jackson asked disgusted.

"Well I don't have a choice," I sighed taking a bite of my apple.

"Why not?" He spat back.

"My dads the coach." I mumbled.

"Coach has a kid!" Jackson gasped.

"Mackenzie FINSTOCK." I said slowly.

"Yeah she's the girl that barged in on us this morning in the locker room, remember I was telling you about that," Danny reminded us all of the dreaded moment. Lydia's strawberry blonde curls quickly whipped around to look at me with wide eyes.

"Anyways, how's lacrosse going for you guys?" I asked desperately trying to change the subject. I hate how people think, that since my dad is so off balance they think he's not well enough to have a kid or that I should be more like him.

"Well hopefully good, we got the scrimmage next Friday." Jackson groaned and rolled his eyes.

"Speaking of Friday's, this Friday party at my house I expect to see you there." Lydia pointed a finger at me. I rolled my eyes and nodded.

Once lunch was over I had to suffer Mr.Harris' class. The whole day he kept picking on me and Stiles. The thing was we never really did anything wrong. I soon had my free period which I took time to complete homework and study for the Chemistry test. After my free period I finished my day with my math class. It seemed to take forever before I went to the lacrosse field. I then saw a smiling Lydia and remembered that my day wasn't exactly over. I wanted to sit on the bench as I was going to get used to, but instead Lydia pulled me up into the bleachers. The whole entire time she blabbed on about fashion, which I knew nothing about since I was raised by a single father and this was my first year actually going to school. I would nod my head occasionally to show I was paying attention. Allison seemed to know a little more than me because she would add in a comment or two about her moms work. Soon enough the practice was over and Lydia and Allison left as I met my dad in his office.
