Afterlife - XYLO

Scott held his hand out to help me from the jeep as we arrived at the school. I took it and landed my feet softly on the pavement.

"Oh, guys! Did you hear that Jackson got a separated shoulder? That's why he wasn't here yesterday." I jumped as we started for homeroom.

"Because of me?" Scott asked sadly pointing at himself.

"Because he's a tool." Stiles stated plainly shoving the main doors open.

"Well, is he gonna play?" Scott scratched the back of his neck nervously.

"Well, they don't know yet. Now they're just counting on you for Saturday." I tried to sound optimistic as I patted him on the back.  When he didn't say anything I spoke up, "Don't tell me you're still not playing?"

"I can tell you." Stiles volunteered.

"I want to, I swear, but I just can't. We'll see what happens." Scott explained as we entered homeroom.

"I'll talk to you guys later, yeah?" I shrugged turning around to find my seat.

"Yeah." They waved before sitting next to each other in their designated spots.

At lunch Allison sat with us which was fun.  I was dismissed from school before I could finish lunch. I left for the main office. My dad was there waiting for me.

"What's up?" I asked worriedly.

"Oh, I forgot to tell you, you have a doctor's appointment today." My dad explained as we left for the hospital.

After the checkup

"I'll be back in a second, there is supposed to be some sort of miniature bakery around here I'm hoping I can get a nice snack before we leave. Just don't leave this floor." My dad told me getting into the elevator as I walked around the main floor before seeing a familiar awkward boy leaned up against the wall talking to Lydia who was sitting in a waiting chair twirling a strawberry locke around her perfectly manicured finger that I was just oh so jealous of. She was just so amazingly beautiful and she always acted like she lived under a rock. And here she was waiting for the captain of the winning lacrosse team, but talking to the boy who I was slowly starting to like more and mo- wait what am I talking about. I don't like him I like Michael Clifford from 5 seconds of summer. I took a deep breath to calm myself down before I edged closer to hear what they were saying.

"...probably don't remember me. Um, I sit behind you in Biology. Uh, anyway, I always thought that we just had this kind of connection. Unspoken, of course. Maybe it'd be kind of cool to, get to know each other a little better." Stiles rambled leaning against the wall awkwardly as he used his free hand to help him talk.

"Hold on, give me a second." Lydia held her ear obviously talking into her Bluetooth Stiles didn't realize she had. "Yeah, I didn't get any of what you just said. Is it worth repeating?"

I mustered a laugh biting my cheek so he wouldn't hear. As bad as I felt for him, I couldn't help but laugh.

"No. Sorry. Uh- I'll just sit." He fell into a chair. "You don't care." He grabbed a pamphlet on the menstrual cycle. I walked up beside him without him noticing. He was too busy staring at Lydia.

"You know, you're right on that one." I chuckled plopping on the chair next to his.

"Oh god! What are you doing here? Did you just hear all of that?" Stiles jumped.

"Well, I heard enough. It's okay though. You're too good for her anyway." I tried to cheer him up.

"I wish." He rolled his eyes looking back at her. I turned my head to look at her, Jackson had joined her and they were now sucking faces. I rolled my eyes at that as Stiles stared at them disgust written all over his face.

"Stiles, the scent is the same. Whoa! What's she doing here?" Scott stopped in his tracks making both me and Stiles jump.

"What do you mean scent?" I asked him. Stiles and Scott's eyes both widened as they looked at each other.

"Are you okay? Why are you at the hospital?" Scott changed the subject pointing towards me accusingly.

"No, that's not how it works. You answer me, I asked you first." I shook my head as Stiles and I stood up and we started walking a little away from the other people in the hospital.

"Well, we might've made cookies because we knew your birthday was coming up. We burnt a couple of batches, but we finally made some good ones and we were checking with Scott's mom, who is a nurse by the way, if the scent was right." Stiles winced before Scott added,

"Plus I was bringing her dinner."

"Oh! No way! You guys are so sweet! I love cookies, I can't believe you knew my birthday was coming up!" I cheered excitedly. My birthday wasn't even close, but I wanted cookies. And I wanted them perfect. Smell and everything.

"Oh great!" Stiles smiled. "Uh, I guess we'll bring them to the game tomorrow."

"Thanks!" I chuckled before slowly starting to walk away to where I saw my dad waving over to me. "I'm expecting them to be nice and soft and homemade."

"Well, we never said that th-" Scott started before Stiles backhanded him. They both smiled and waved.

"I'll see you guys!" I spun around and left the hospital with a smile. My dad handed me a freshly baked chocolate chip cookie as we neared the car. I laughed taking the first bite.
