the next day, luke was walking in the halls, about 5 minutes after the late bell rang. he was going to be late for class, but he didn't care. he was too worried about kelsea and annoyed with cody to even pay attention in class, so what was the point in going?

earlier in the morning, kelsea and cody would not stop. they were touching, literally, all morning long. there wasn't a split second without them having contact. when he wasn't drooling over kelsea, he would send a smug smile to luke and a glare.

and of course, here he was again.

"hey hemmings." he paused, "aw, is someone skipping class so he can tell kelsea how much of a wittle rebel he is?" cody teased, smirking and stopping in front of the boy.

"dude, i just can't focus, so i'm walking around for awhile." luke rolled his eyes, stopping as well. "what's your problem anyway?"

"my problem is you making constant goo goo eyes at my girl. like she's meat or something." cody laughed bitterly, "sorry to tell you, luke, but she's taken. and she doesn't want you eye-fucking her all the time, either. just step off."

"i don't even like her like that!" luke lied - both to cody and himself. oh, that in denial boy. "i don't wanna talk about this anymore, or i might get really pissed." he started to walk away.

cody blocked his path. "oh yeah? and what will happen if lukey gets mad?" cody pouted.

"you don't wanna know." luke said with clenched teeth.

"i'd ask you to show me," cody smirked. "but i know that you won't. you're just a pussy." he bit, trying to intimidate the blonde boy who towered over him.

luke broke there, putting his hand in a fist and punching cody in the face, giving him a black eye. cody flinched back a bit, lifting back up to punch luke. a few punches later, they started yelling, drawing attention to the halls and causing a teacher to step out of the room and call a security guard. cody and luke didn't stop until the buff guard's hands pulled them away from each other, breaking up the fight. they both got sent to the office, coming to a quick agreement in front of the principal. neither wanted consequences, but both got quickly sent back to class, getting off with only a warning and long lecture.

"you're an idiot." kelsea hit luke lightly on the back of his head from the passenger seat.

"agh," he exclaimed lowly, "i know."

"why would you even threaten him, luke?" kelsea rolled her eyes, crossing her arms, "i'm so pissed. at both of you. what did he even say?"

"it doesn't matter." he pulled into the driveway.

"it mattered enough to give him a black eye." she bit, unbuckling her seatbelt and opening the door, quickly slamming it behind her.

"kels, come on. he hit me too!" luke said, quickening his pace to catch up to her as she unlocked the door to her house.

she let him in, sighing and avoiding his gaze to look to the floor, "i know." she looked back up at him, "i'm sorry. i didn't mean to bitch. hug?"

luke laughed a little, shaking his head in disbelief but hugging her anyway, picking her up and spinning her around.

"lucas, put me down!" she whined, as he threw her over his shoulder.

"nope." he giggled. just as he started running around and spinning again, making kelsea a laughing mess, her phone rang.

"lemme down, please, just for the call. okay?" kelsea said. luke obliged and set her down.

"hello?" she picked up the phone, her tone chirpy.

"yeah. i heard." her tone was annoyed now, "like i told luke, you're an idiot. is everything solved with your fists, cody? cause that's how it seems lately." luke's ears perked at her statement, wondering why she would say that. his stomach flipped at the possibilities.

"i don't want you over. not today." she paused, "tomorrow is fine, but i'm not dealing with this today. bye." she almost hung up, until he spoke into the line again, making her sigh. "love you too.."

luke always hated hearing those words come out of her mouth while talking to cody.

she sighed and hung up. she gave luke and awkward smile and fell onto the couch where he was sitting.

"why did you ask cody if-" kelsea interrupted luke, quickly changing the subject.

"eh, doesn't matter. what do you wanna watch on here?" she opened netflix.

"whatever you want."

"you're the one with bruises all over you." little did luke know, she had them too. multiple.

"is...how i met your mother ok?" he smiled cheekily.

"should've guessed." kelsea rolled her eyes playfully, smiling and clicking the sitcom on. she plopped her head onto luke's lap, playing around with his hands and feeling comfier resting on him than she ever had with cody.

kelsea didn't pay much attention to the t.v., pondering thoughts of luke in her head. she felt at home with him - more than she ever had with cody. and she hoped that didn't mean what she thought.

'do i even love cody anymore?' she asked herself, making her head spin. was she falling in love with luke? or just falling out of love with cody?

she fell asleep on his lap, not remembering getting carried to bed and certainly not remembering luke spending the night.

the next morning was the best wake up in awhile. not only for luke, but for kelsea, too. neither of them would admit that to each other. it made kelsea feel guilty. she didn't want to like waking up next to luke, but she did. and she shouldn't, since she has a boyfriend.

an abusive, asshole boyfriend.

"morning." luke said as kelsea stretched.

"hi." kelsea yawned, looking in the mirror, surprised to see her makeup still perfectly resting on her face. "what time is it?"

"8:42."

"what? are you kidding me? we still have school!" kelsea yelled at luke throwing her hands in the air. luke laughed.

"nah, your mom saw you sleeping like a baby and said you can have a free senior ditch day. she called us both in."

"she..she did? that's weird. she usually wouldn't do that."

"i know, i think she just made an exception. you looked awfully cute nuzzled into my chest." luke joked, adding a wink.

"oh shut up.." she blushed.

"what do you wanna do today?" kelsea asked as luke sat up in the bed, watching her choose an outfit.

"nothing." luke said.

"nothing?" she raised a brow.

"yep," luke smiled at her cheekily, "just wanna be with you."
