I groaned as a sudden flash of light was emitted to my face, I rubbed my eyes and tried to focus on what was happening, it was Linda, she had flicked on my light
"Sammy, we have to go to court today so get ready. I'll be making breakfast, Ok?" she said kindly before leaving and shutting my door
I sat up and huffed, great, time to see my Dad and go to court. What a wonderful Friday. I stood up and made my way over to the wardrobe and grabbed a greyish-green button up shirt and a pair of black jeans. Good enough. Once I was dressed I put on some mismatching socks and my low cut black shoes and then made my way down stairs to have breakfast.
After the bacon filled breakfast, Ryan lead us to the car and we began the two hour journey to court. During the drive I fell asleep, which cut off about three quarters of the trip, the other part was just starting out the window at the storm that had begun in my short slumber.
Once we arrived at the courthouse an officer lead us past the courtroom door
"This is case number 84C01-0703-JD-00569, in the matter of Adam Mathews. Present in the court room are the defendant and his attorney, the deputy prosecutor, and the probation officer." The Judge said
His voice was muffed my the door, but I recognised my real Dad's name and it made me sick, once we entered the room we were seated let be. I was told to be prepared to present myself to the court, I was shaking, I had to face my dad after what he did to my Mom. I sat in the room and tapped the table as I thought about the moments before my coma, however I was interrupted by another officer tapping on the door and leading us to the courtroom. This was it.
I was seated at the witness stand whilst Ryan and Linda were lead to a seating area. Not long after I was seated, I saw him; I saw my Dad. The moment he sat down he made direct eye contact with me, he looked more vicious than I remembered. I felt sick and I wanted to cry and throw up, my current state was interrupted by the judge's voice
"Sampson Allard, do you Affirm to be completely honest with your evidence?"
I nodded
"I take the affirmation to be completely honest during this trial" I said as clearly as I could
I was then handed a small card and told to speak my evidence
"I entered my parent's room to see my Dad wielding a blood drenched kitchen knife and my Mom on the floor, also covered in blood. I went to run away and I was chased by my Dad who had the intentions of killing me too."
After I had gave my story I was asked to sit out in a waiting room where Linda and Ryan had been seated, I walked down the hall shakily
'What if he is declared innocent? What will he do then?' I thought to myself as I began to feel sick once again
I sat down next to my foster parents and just thought about the worst outcomes in my own little bubble of dread
The time past horribly slowly before a guard walked in and talked to Ryan, I couldn't make out what they were saying but it had to be the results of the jury. The guard then left as Ryan made his way over to me,
"Let's get out of here" he said with his usual awkward chuckle
We made it into the car when Ryan turned around
"Your father, he was found guilty. I didn't want to tell you before just in case. They said you can visit him next week, but he'll be in jail" he said in an unusually serious tone
Seeing him so serious was scary, he was always so awkward and nervous.
I nodded then looked out the window whilst Ryan started the car and began on the long ways home.
Once we were home Linda went off and began to make some lunch and Ryan began on mowing the lawns, I however went to my room to loath in my stress
'If I see him, what will he do? Will he try to kill me? Does he hate me more?"I snapped out of my sort of trans when my phone buzzed against the wood of my side table, i leaned over and grabbed my phone
'come back and play!'
just a stupid game notification.
the rest of the day passed quite quickly, the weekend even faster. since i had no real social life, I had nothing to do other than play Pokemon and crossy road.
before i knew it, it was Monday and i had the same classes i always did; math, english, science and legal. the first two periods went by speedily, as maths was just revision sheets and english was reading a book for our assignments. once the bell rang everyone had swarmed out the room, few stayed back to be yelled at by the bitch of a teacher, i just took my time and wandered out to meed David in the same spot we always sat
"hey" i said as i sat down and out my bag beside me
"Oh hey Sam" Dave said as he looked up at me
"i was wondering, did you want to hang out after school?" he asked out of the blue
"oh- uh, yeah. sure... I'll have to ask Linda first"
David nodded whilst i messaged Linda and asked her if i could go out, and not even a minute later she responded with a yes
"I can go" i notified David
"ill meet you here after school and we can go to the field near the maths block" he said with a slight smile
i think that was a the first ever time i had seen him smile in the slightest
The day past rather quickly, and as we planned I met David at the spot after my last period
"You ready to go?" David asked once I arrived
"Yeah" I nodded
We walked to the field without either of us saying a word, which wasn't that bad since we hardly spoke much as it was
Once we arrived David sat down and looked up at me, expecting me to sit next to him... Which I did
"What's it like?" David asked
"What?"
"Having people who care about you" he sighed
"What do you mean? You have parents that care for you, right?" I choked at the last sentence
Parents, I always remembered them being so happy, why did he do that? What would drive him to murder?
"I guess" David huffed
There was a long silence"Hey Sam, can I ask you someth-" he was cut off by too loud beeps from a car horn
We both turned around to see a red four wheel drive parked not too far from us
"I-I have to go" David said nervously as he grabbed his bag and ran off to the vehicle
I turned back around wondering what he wanted to ask before I texted Linda asking to be picked up
