"See you after school Sam" Ryan called as he drove away from the front gate of the school
I wandered over to where David and I always sat to see him there, staring down at the table as always
"Hey" I said
He groaned in response as he lifted up his head to look at me
"What did you want to ask me yesterday?" I asked
"O-Oh...well...I-uh" he stuttered, looking away nervously
"C-can we talk after school, at the same place?" He mumbled, avoiding eye contact
"I guess so, I'll have to ask Linda first though"
He nodded and returned his unnaturally awkward gaze down to the table, my phone buzzed moments later with a response
"I can go" I responded
The day went on at its usual speed and before I knew it, I was at the field with david
"S-so, um...will you..." David paused
"Will you be my boyfriend" he asked, red in the face
I froze and swallowed hard
"B-boyfriend?" I questioned to myself
David was staring intently across the park bench we were seated on, he wanted an answer
"I...I can't" I said as I made eye contact with David
"What?"
"I can't" I said again
"Why not?" David asked, immediately regretting it
"I can't like people" I mumbled, away
"I can't love" I clarified
"What do you mean you can't love?"
"...I just can't" I huffed
I felt tears fill up in my eyes
"Why can't I just be normal" I mumbled
David let out a snicker
"You? Not normal? Thats hilarious!" He began
"You dont have to come home to your own mother screaming at you and calling you a failure!" He yelled directly at my face
I swallowed hard and tried to blink away the tears that filled the corners of eyes but to no avail
"I-i dont have" i choked on my words
David glanced at me before realising what he had said
"Sam...I...I'm so sorry" he said, resting his hand on my shoulder
I slapped his hand of and turned away
"Just leave" I mumbled as i messaged linda to pick me up
"B-but sam...I-"
"-no. Just leave me alone" I snapped back at David, interrupting his sentence
David sighed and looked down at the ground
"Im sorry" he said quietly but sincerely as he stood up and walked away
Not long after he had left, i stood up and began to walk home
I just wanted to be home. I just wanted to sleep. Just to crawl into my bed and never leave.
