It was well after 3 when I had the energy to get up. Stretching my arms over my head I listened closely outside to see if anybody was around. Silence was the only thing that greeted me. After changing into some jeans and a plain black tank top I stepped out into the hallway. I felt a slight nudge towards my stomach as I saw the dent imprinted into the wall.
I made my way through the house until I encountered the stairs leading up to the other bedrooms and study areas. I walked slowly, as if that would cause the rickety stairs to suddenly hold off the creaky noises it was destined to make. I recognized Hunter's study right away, the biggest door in the house. Fisting my hand I raised my arm to knock stopping mid air my heart freezing.
Slowly I let out a breath and just took my fist, unraveling it and placing it flat against the door. My head followed suit and I leaned my forehead against the wood. A shuffling noise came from inside and I knew right away who it was.
"I'm sorry Hunter" my voice sounded broken, I sounded like I hadn't drunk water in days. The shuffling noise stopped and I could just feel his presence standing right on the other side. "Please don't ignore me" I said as I slid down the door, placing my back against it. "I know I screwed up. I don't really understand how though. You have to give me something. All I thought I was doing was following what my heart told me to do, so I'm not going to apologize for that." A few minutes passed by in silence. So brushing off imaginary dust I made my way outside into the bright sun.
I decided to take my mind off things by going to the library and indulging myself in a good book. As I was passing by the music shop a melody coming from the back urged me to follow the sound. As stealthy as I could be I walked in nodding to the Mr.Frank at the counter before going into the back where a guitar sound was coming from.
When I walked it I didn't really know what I expected. I had to stand on my tiptoes to make the couch unblock my vision. Looking around I certainly did not expect to see Hayden with his back to me, hunched over a guitar, strumming slightly. My mind was even more baffled when he opened his mouth to sing.
Breath deep, breath clear
Know that I'm here, know that I'm here waiting
Stay strong, stay gold
Don't have to fear, waiting
I'll see you soon
How could a heart like yours ever love a heart like mine
How could I ever live before
How could I been so blind
As if sensing I was there he made a wrong note, stopping singing and turning around to face me. We both stared at each other awkwardly. I felt like I had just seen his heart bleed on the table.
"That was a pretty song, what's it called" I asked trying to break the awkward silence.
"Heart Like Yours" He said after observing me for a minute. "Do you play" he gestured to his guitar slung across his lap.
"Never picked one up in my life" red coated my cheeks in embarrassment.
"Do you want to try" he asked holding the guitar up for me. Huffing a bit at his change in mood, I reluctantly made my way to his side and sat on the couch.
Silently he handed me the guitar. It felt awkward in my hands and I turned it on its side so I could rest its back against my chest.
"Wrong way idiot" Hayden mumbled before turning the guitar around in my arms. "Here place your hands on the neck, like this" Hayden slowly grabbed my hands placing them over the strings. He gripped my hips, making my heart jump in my chest, then he tilted my body so I could be pressed up against his chest while he leaned over my shoulder.
