I Choose You

I see him when I turn the corner. He's sitting on the ground.
"What were you thinking?!" I shout.
He immediately stands. His expression is furrowed, eyebrows shifting along with the flicker of his eyes.
"What?" He asks, slightly startled.
"Daniel told me you wanted us to talk and I told you specifically that I never wanted to see him again."
"I just needed you to make a decision."
"A decision?"
He peers down.
My heart shatters as I realise.
"I don't want Daniel, you know that." I step forward.
I lift his gaze. His blue eyes are drowning in fear - he looks like a frightened child that just had the worse nightmare possible.
"What did you talk about?" He asks.

I thought back to it.

I had sat beside Daniel. He was fiddling with the buttons of his jacket, clearing his throat and adjusting his posture like we were in some sort of business meeting.
"So...uh," He laughs. "I don't know where to start."
His smile fades however when he sees my stern expression.
"Look I'm sorry I kissed you, I knew you were-"
"With Shane. Yes, I am. You had no right to-"
"I know!" Daniel sighs, running his hands through his unkempt quiff. "I just, I feel bad but I can't fight this."
He turns to me. His knees lightly collide with mine.
"I can't pretend I don't have feelings for you because I do."
He tries to take my hand but I thrust it away. I abruptly stand.
"No, you can't keep doing this! I'm with Shane!" I announce.
He bows his head down and I sigh. My heart is torn as I realise how much pain he is in.
I sit back down.
"You're a great looking guy, Dan. You're funny, smart; anyone would be lucky to have you." I tell him with my hand on his shoulder.
He sniffs, shaking his head at his shoes.
"I don't just want anyone though. I want, I want-"
"I know but...I have Shane." He looks at me and slowly stands from the bench.
"I get it. I, uh, should move out or-"
"No. I can....I can move in with Shane."
He nods.
"Right. Okay."
With this I watch him walk away.

I tell Shane all of this as we walk.
"So..." He smirks. "We're moving in together?"
I feel myself blushing.
"Well...we sorta already were."
He places a firm arm around my waist and I turn my head to place a tender kiss to his mouth. His stubble is rough against my lips.
"Should we go back to our flat?" I ask but to my surprise Shane shakes his head.
"We didn't just go out to talk to your ex. I have made plans for us."
"Oh," I cannot contain my grin. "Where are we-"
"You'll see." He lets go of my hip and entwines his fingers among mine.
He hauls me down the steps to the near by beach.

It's only 5PM but it's getting dark. The sun is simmering down causing the skies to ink out into a navy cloud. It causes the sea to ignite. The sand looks almost black and its hard to know where to step.
He guides me though.
"Shane, where are we-"
"Stay here."
"Shane!" I shriek as he suddenly vanishes from my sight.
I search around the pitch black for his hand, his scent, his touch but he isn't there.
Suddenly I see light. I spin around in bewilderedness as I witness candles. They surround my feet in a large circle.
I spin until I catch sight of him again.
His face is glistening, the flames causing his eyes to look green above the lightened scenery.
"What is all this?"
"I thought..." He laughs with a hesitate. "we could watch a film under the stars?"

I look down to see he had set a blanket and a laptop upon the sand.
He looks bashful, unsure of how I feel.
I leap into his arms and wrap my arms around his neck. I kiss him. I kiss him and reveal every emotion in which I feel for him. He smiles against my lips.
"Do you want to watch a horror?"
I pull away with a frown.
He groans and rolls his eyes.
"Or...we could watch The Hunger Games." He comprises.
"This is why I love you!" I tell him and he grins like an innocent five year old boy.

I awake, curled up against his chest. I expect the beach, dark skies and cold wind but to my surprise I witness none of those things. I am cradled under the duvet of his bed.
I slowly sit, still encased within his arms.
I run a finger along a jaw line.
He must have carried me here last night.
I grin to myself before falling back into the pillows. As my body lays back down, Shane awakes.
His indigo eyes sleepily scan the room before landing on me. He tries to bite back a smirk,
"Morning." I greet.
He releases his grin as I place my lips against his.
"Last night...was amazing." His rough voice vibrates against my mouth as he speaks.
He lays back against the pillows. I roam over him to kiss him again but stops me.
"I'm hungry!" He whines.
"I'm not."
"Well I am. Make me some toast or something."
I glare at his demand.
"Please!" He grins widely and I sigh before getting up to make him something to eat.
