A Dauntless Kind of Love

Fourty One

"I still think it's stupid." I tell Penelope from my spot on the couch.

"Kraven, it's his job. He has to go to Erudite every now and then." Pen gave me a small smile, she was being so nice but that only made me more agitated. I was extremely pregnant and ready to pop and where is my husband? In another faction!

"Penelope, are you excited to be aunt?" I asked her and her eyes seemed to glow.

"Oh my gosh you have no idea! I mean you do because you're going to a mom but... Yes!" She smiles and sits near me on the couch. "It's going to be hard to get rid of me, I can't wait to hold her."

"You know you are welcome here any time." I told her and knew I'd probably regret saying that in the future.
"I'm so over having to pee every five minutes." I tell her as I get to my feet but a strong cramp in my lower stomach make me groan.

"Kraven, are you ok?" She rushed to my side but I just nod.

"I'm fine Pen, I promise. I think I need to just walk around..." I looked at our new two bedroom apartment and smiled as I walked into the nursery. Luckily Arielle wouldn't have to wear all black right away. Her nursery was colored in beiges and creams with white trimmings. I ran my hand over the wood crib and smiled again, knowing there was a bassinet in our room where she would be sleeping for a while.

It was happening this time. We were going to have our little baby girl. Our entire world was about to change and I couldn't wait for it.

I busied myself with making sure everything in the nursery was absolutely perfect and before I knew it Eric was standing in the door way, smiling at me.

"Any day now." He says as he walks in and stands next to where I am sitting. "How are you feeling?"

"I've been having some cramps but I'm ok."

He looked a little worried. "Are you sure they are just cramps? Do we need to..."

"Eric, I'm fine trust me. I'll know when I go into labor."

"Ok, well I brought you dinner so let's go eat." He takes my arm and helps me off the ground but as I stand up straight I feel something wet rush down my legs. "Was that..."

"My water. That was my water! Eric my water broke!" I look at him with wide eyes and couldn't help but smile at his shocked and panicked look. I take his face into my hands and get him to look me in the eye. "It's going to be ok Eric. I love you."

"I love you... Let's go." He picks me up into his arms and as he carries me out the door bridal style I notice Pen was still there. She is quickly following us.

"Pen! Go get my parents!" I tell her and she nods before running off in another direction."

"This is it Kraven. It's time to bring our little girl into the world." He whispers to me as he rushes into the infirmary.
"Her water broke." He tells Dr. Strickland and we led back to a private room where Eric and a nurse help me out of my clothes and Into a gown and then I to the bed.

"Oh my baby girl." My mom says as she walks in with my dad and they both give me hug. "We are going to be waiting right outside but I just had to tell you that We love you and we are so proud of you."

"Thank you guys. I love you both as well so much." I watched as they left the room and that's when the contractions started.

"I can't! I can't! Get it out!" I yell four hours after my water broke.

"Just a few more pushes Kraven." The doctor told me.

"You can do it Babe, you're doing so great." I looked at Eric and he looked so exhausted but he didn't have a right to be! I was the one pushing his baby out my womb!

I let out another yell as I pushed when I was told to do so.

"She is crowning!" I hear and continue to push.

The pressure stops and little tiny cries fill the room. They were high pitched and strong and brought joyful tears to my eyes.

"Kraven she is beautiful." Eric told me as he looked at her. A nurse quickly cleaned her up and then placed her in my arms.

She was wrapped in a pale pink blanket and looked absolutely beautiful. Her eyes were open and I saw they were a deep blue. We just stared at each other and I couldn't stop smiling.

"Hello Arielle, I'm your mommy and this is your Dady and we love you more than you'll ever know." I kiss her head and turn to look at Eric who has tears in his eyes. "Eric do you want to hold her?"

He nods, "but I'm afraid I'll hurt her."

"You won't hurt her." I tell him reassuringly and he nods. I help him take her in his arms and his eyes just light up.

"I'll never let anything happen to you Arielle. You and your mommy are my whole world."

I saw a tear slip from his eye as she made a little whining noise. He rocked her and she quickly fell asleep.

He looked back at me and I could see the love for her written all over his face. His tough demeanor was completely gone and replaced with love for his two favorite girls.

"Thank you Kraven. I love you so much."

"And I love you. I always will."

At that moment my life felt complete and my heart held nothing but love. How could life get any better?
