Nina:
I tapped my foot rapidly on the floor as I scanned the classroom with my brown eyes for the millionth time. Where the frick was Tinaya? She left to go to the bathroom and never came back. Did she fall off the bridge? Did she jump into a white van? Did they tell her that Brendon Urie was in there? I couldn't help but be extremely distracted from my class. My best friend could have been dead for all I knew.
I began playing with my light brown hair to stop thinking about her but I couldn't help it. I looked across at Shareece and whispered, "where's Tinaya?" She shrugged and continued to copy notes from the board in the dead silence. I carried on writing but stopped every third word to continue my mental freak out. Suddenly the door opened and I was both over joyed and bewildered. In walked (Correction: hopped) Tinaya with her arm wrapped around Calum's shoulder for support.
Despite being one of her best friends I didn't know the full story behind them both. All I knew was that last year they were really close- and I mean really close. They were possibly the biggest ship our year had ever seen and they weren't even a couple. Then something happened on the birthday that we freakishly share. She cancelled all our arrangements and spent the entire day sitting on the beach. Ever since then she avoided Calum, had trust and anger issues, wouldn't hug anyone, became prone to panic attacks and learnt self defence. After only a week of ignoring Calum she practically forgot his existence. It was strange but every time we asked her about it she seemed to manipulate the conversation so we were talking about our non-existent love lives. We eventually just gave up on pursuing the matter further. She seemed like the same Tinaya around Shareece, Rochelle and I but slightly different; like she was wearing a mask.
Calum lowered Tinaya into her seat next to mine, handed the teacher a note explaining there absence and sat down. He isn't even in this class. What the heck happened to his face? I went to go ask Tinaya to explain everything to me but the teacher looked at me as if saying, 'I dare you.' Then I gave Tinaya a look which ordered, 'tell me at lunch.'
The bell rang throughout the room and I picked up my books and ran out the door. I shoved everything into my bag quickly and realised that Tinaya wasn't with me. Whoops, her foot was stuffed up for some reason. As I went to run back in and help her I stopped abruptly as she exited the room the way she came in; with Calum. My brain spun around in confusion. What the heck was going on?!
"Tinaya, what happened to you?" I said while ignoring Calum's presence. I felt bad. He was best friends with the guy I had a major, two year long crush on; but it had to be done for Tinaya's sake.
"She climbed a tree trying to get some kids soccer ball. After passing the ball to the kid she fell back pathetically and made the ground shake," he laughed. Tinaya breathed deeply through her nose before plastering a smiling mask on her face.
"At least my face isn't mangled beyond recognition," she spat. I began to walk backwards as I sensed the war about to occur.
"Darling, I make broken look smoken' hot."
"Why don't you go fuck yourself if you think you're so amazing?!" That was when I snapped. I stepped towards Tinaya and slapped her on the head.
"Don't swear," I scolded. Then we got into an argument about how she can, 'swear whenever the f*** she wants.' I decided to end the fight seeing that she just cussed more when arguing.
The three of us walked the long way into the quad and sat down at a bench. When I expected Calum to leave and sit with his friends he did the exact opposite. Instead, he sat next to Tinaya and rested his chin on his arm.
