 Intro:

Callie Merrick was beautiful, young and alone. Most of her life she was alone. Yes she has a family I guess if that is what you call it. Her mother is a drunk; her father is a high paid criminal lawyer. She is currently working in advertising and public relations at the local news paper. But Callie wants more for herself this is a dead end job. Then Callie gets a call that changes her world forever. Callie finds a letter that has answers to so many questions she does not even know to ask. In the envelope there is a necklace she has never seen the likes of.

Chapter 1

The alarm clock rang and Callie jumped out of bed. She must have been having one of those dreams again. She has had strange dreams lately.  She figured it was stress with the job and the family she was at the end of her rope. Her mother could not stay sober for more than one day; her father did not give a damn any longer about his wife and her addiction. The only bright spot in his life is Callie his daughter.

Callie got into the office when her assistant came in.

“Ms. Merrick there is an urgent phone call on line two for you.” she told her.

Callie went and picked her phone up.

“This is Callie Merrick” she said.

“Ms. Merrick, I am detective Ronald Burk, I am at Chicago Memorial Hospital your father was in an automobile accident.” he told her.

“I will be right there.” she said.

Callie looked at her assistant. “Cancel all my appointments for today.” she yelled to her as she headed to the elevator.

“What was that about?” Dylan Walker asked Callie’s assistant. Callie just about knocked him over getting onto the elevator.

“She just got a call from the police that her father is in the hospital after an automobile accident.” she told him.

Dylan Walker is the CEO of the news paper.

“I hope everything is ok.” Dylan said.

“When she calls in tell her to take all the time she needs.” he told the assistant.

Callie arrived at the hospital and went to the nurse’s station she told them who she was.

“The doctor will be with you in a minute please take a seat.” the nurse said.

A few minutes later two gentlemen walked out. And walked over to her.

“Ms. Merrick, I am Dr. Allen Hunter and I am detective Ronald Burk.” they told her.

“How is my father?” Callie asked nervously.

“Let’s go into the private room over there.” Dr. Hunter said.

“No tell me now.” Callie said.

“I am sorry Ms. Merrick you father passed away.” he told her.

Callie started to shake her head no, no.

“You are lying he is not dead.” Callie yelled.

“I am sorry he is.” detective Ronald Burk said.

Tears were running down her face now. She could not believe it.

“Did someone call my mom?” Callie asked.

“There was no need to as your mother is the one that hit your father.” “I am sorry to say she also did not make it.” detective Ronald Burk told her.

Callie collapsed into a chair she could not think all she wanted to do is cry. This was just too much to take. She did not even know who she should call first. Her mind was a blank. She was scared and did not know what to do.

She pulled her phone out and hit the speed dial.

“Hello Sam I need you…” was all she could get out before breaking into sobs.

The detective took Callie’s phone and asked who he was speaking to.

“Samantha Talon.” “I am Callie Merrick’s best friend.” she said.

Ronald Burk explained everything to her once he knew who she was. He told her he felt she needed to come to the hospital.

“Detective tell Callie I will be there as soon as possible.” Sam said.

“I will do so.” he told her.

Callie sat there not believing any of this was real how could both of her parents be dead. She found out that her mother’s blood alcohol was twice what it should be. She needed to call her grandparents. What would she say to them? She took out her phone.

“Hello, grandma it’s Callie.” “I have to tell you something is there someone there with you?” Callie asked.

“Callie sweetheart what is wrong.” Grandma Stillman I am at the hospital can you and grandpa come?” Callie asked.

“Of course we will be right there.” she told her.

Callie dialed the next number.

“Hello, grandpa, it’s Callie.” she told him.

“Callie are you ok, you sound like you are crying.” he said.

“Grandpa Merrick is grandma there with you?” “I am at the hospital and I need you to come.” she told him.

Both sets of grandparents came right behind each other. They found Callie who by now was a mess. Both grandparents went to her.

“Callie sweetie thank god you are ok.” they said.

She looked up at all of them and they could she pain and fear in her eyes.

“It’s not me, it’s mom and dad they were in a car accident they are both dead.” she whispered.

The grandparents broke down they did could not believe it. Then they heard the whole story from detective Burk.

Callie needed to get out of there. Sam her friend finally arrived and went to Callie and wrapped her into a tight hug. Callie just sobbed on her shoulder. To make it official I need to have someone ID them.” the doctor told them.

“I will do it.” Callie said

“Callie you do not have to do that one of us can do that?” Jeremy Merrick said. So Jeremy Merrick and the doctor went in wherehe did ID them.

They finally got Callie to leave the hospital she went home and stayed alone that is what she wanted. But little did Callie know that she was being watched. Something that has been waiting for the right time.
