The Other Side

Chapter 5

I ran fast as I could, making my way down town - or at least not too far away from home. It didn't ever occur to me that Nona will eventually just tell Bob. Stupid plan.

As I got down to a road, I began to slow down, my clutzy ankles twisted, making me lose my balance and falling off the sidewalk. Darn heels. I realised that my butt never touched the ground, and I happened to be in the arms of a mister. I looked up and just to my surprise...it was Sodapop Curtis. We gazed at each other for a moment, before I quickly stood up and fixed myself. I didn't really know how to act infront of a guy like him, especially now that we're alone, awkwardly looking at each other. We both were just as surprised to see each other, one because I never come downtown, and two, it's rare that we meet...alone.

"Electra?" He finally said, breaking the silence. He knows my name?

"Mr Curtis" I replied, keeping my cool.

"Are you alright? Those kitties don't seem to help you run...and why were you running?"

My mind went blank. He doesn't really need to know that even I wasn't in the greatest terms with Bob at the moment as well. It'll just ruin his reputation - which would mean mine too...

"I trying to find my earrings somewhere...thanks for your concern" I lied.

Soda crossed his arms and chuckled quietly to himself.

"You're not a very good liar. Why would you be walking around here?"

I huffed with embarrassment. "Why wouldn't I?"

I was now in an actual conversation with this guy, whether it was a good or bad one. Before anything else was said, there was a distant call for Soda.

"Sodapop Curtis! Where were you this whole time? I tried to find you at the DX but you weren't there"

Mr Curtis turned around.

"Sandy, didn't Steve tell you I was going home?"

Sandy frowned. "No, he didn't."

Slowly, I tried to back away from their little argument, walking the opposite direction. I turned around to see Soda, look at me, apologetically. I smiled and nodded with understanding. Without a hassle, I began to walk back home, a little disappointed.
