I felt content having completed my responsibility. Father Magnus had a great impression on everyone including the non-believers and it would be impossible to convince them he was a fraud. No amount of evidence would convince their ignorant minds. At the gate I was stopped by the security and after getting clearance I was ushered in. He met them in the same room they convened the first time. They looked anxious.
'Are you alright?' one of them asked.
'I am fine. I did it.'
'Did you leave the gun there?'
'Yea.' I realized that I had forgotten the last step. The gun was still in my pocket. But I lied.
'Did you wipe it clean?'
'Yes.'
'So he's dead, huh?'
'Yes.' I didn't flinch.
'Wow,' he reclined in his chair 'I didn't think it would happen.'
'Why, you didn't think I was capable?'
'No, I didn't think you were gullible enough to take word of two strangers to kill a priest whom you revere as a God.'
My head felt heavy, it felt like lead weighting down on my body, my knees felt weak as if I would collapse to the floor anytime. My head felt light, like every cell that made up my skull was flying away and my body was turning to dust. The room spun in wild circles, unrestrained. My whole world turned upside down. The greatest thing I've ever accomplished turned to the most sinister thing any person could ever do. I murdered an unarmed person who trusted me blindly. I saw the sneers spread across their faces. Suddenly it dawned on me. I am not going to leave this place. I am never going to leave this place. They would erase me from the face of earth using their macabre tricks and no one would miss me. My hand felt cold even in the warmth of my robe and the metal felt colder. One of them slowly rose trying not to startle me.
'You know what happens next.'
For this moment there's nothing to be said.
I imagined their faces contorted in agony moments from now because in the heat of the moment I'll be deprived of my senses. I took out the gun and shot both of them faster than I'd thought I would. The first one collapsed with an appalling expressing on his face. The other was still struggling to stay alive.
'Death is only the beginning.' I whispered and ended his misery.
