-(Cameron's POV)-

"Great job boys! You definitely hounded on them. Get plenty of rest this weekend. Y'all got practice Monday." Coach says and goes into his office.

I limp my way to the showers and turn the water on to soothe my aching muscles.

"Hey bro! Nice job tonight man." Eli says getting in the stall next to me.

"Thanks. You too." I say smiling.

Playing basketball has always helped me release unwanted emotions. Tonight was perfect for that.

"But uh, is your knee alright? That looked seriously painful when that bulldozer stepped on you."

I just shrug. "I feel fine."

His shoulders untense as he sighs. "That's great. I don't know what I would've done if I were you."

After a bit more of small talk I turn the water off and dry myself before putting on a hoodie and sweats.

"See you guys Monday." I call out to the team as I leave.

They all respond and I walk out of the locker rooms and slowly make my way to the front of the school.

"Cameron wait."

I turn around and see Ryder walking towards me.

"Hey. What's up?" I ask trying to seem as casual as possible.

"I'm so sorry I wasn't there for the first half. I was-"

"With Felicia," I finish for him. "I figured."

His shoulders slump.

"God I'm sorry. You don't hate me right? Because I already hate me along with Logan."

I roll my eyes. "No I don't h-"

He cuts me off by wrapping his arms around my smaller frame.

"I really need to tell you this. I-" he stops talking as my phone starts ringing.

I pull away from him and answer it.

"Hello?"

"Hey Cameron. Mom just wanted me to tell you that she'll be out until Tuesday. Are you almost home? I'm scared to be by myself right now." May says.

"Yeah I'll be there in fifteen."

We hang up and I look back up at Ryder.

"Let's go." I say.

He stares at me shocked.

"What?"

"I said lets go. May is waiting."

"Okay."

We walk out of the school and get into our separate cars before driving off.

I pull into my driveway with Ryder right behind me and I get out.

I'm about to open the door to the house but Ryder stops me.

"Wait. I just. I really need to do this."

The door suddenly opens as May stands there.

"Okay you little fuckers. Come in the house already so I can rest peacefully." May says half asleep.

She's always been scared to be alone ever since dad died, but it's understandable.

We silently walk in the house and I close the door and lock it.

"How was the game?" May asks.

"We won." I say smiling.

"How's your knee?" Ryder asks.

"His knee? What's wrong with his knee?" May says getting worried.

I huff. "It's nothing. I'm fine."

May just stares at me. "Okay. Goodnight guys. See you in the morning."

We give out a chorus of good nights and May walks upstairs.

Ryder and I take a seat on the couch.

"So...." I start out awkwardly.

"I'm really sorry I wasn't there. I can't believe I did that."

I roll my eyes. "It's fine. Sooner or later something like that had to have happened."

"What do you mean?" He asks.

"I think going to every single game would be a bit unrealistic. Besides, you like Felicia. You should've just told me though." I shrug.

Ryder frowns deeply. "I'm not sure that I like her Cam."

I roll my eyes again. "Make up your mind before Katy Perry makes another song. Now I don't know about you but I'm tired." I stand up and stretch.

He gives a weak laugh as we go upstairs to my room.

"Are you okay?" I ask as we lay down.

He just wordlessly nods.

I frown.

"Ryder talk to me."

"I just. I don't have anything to say." He shrugs.

I nod and turn on my side, hoping to get comfortable.

After a few minutes Ryder's arms snake around my waist, but I don't fight it. We both need this right now.

And eventually we fall asleep.

I hate myself. That was only 703 words. Ugh. I would make it longer but I really needed to end it there. Next chapter will be a lot longer though.
