Empty hearts chained up together,
So tight, together they're bound to wither.
Twist and turn, soon they'll dry.
For love, they spurn,
To attain it, they try.
Oblivious to the fact,
They just needed to look,
Not only see.
I was chained to you,
You were chained to me.

Filled with ache,
The hearts submitted.
Nearing a break,
Cracks were permitted.
They weren't filled and grew wider,
In between the hearts,
Now stood a divider.

Break it, they could
It was their choice.
But both betrayed,
The depth of their soul's voice.

Soon, they grew further apart,
Until one of them saw the other broken heart.
To look for the missing piece,
It tried.
But, now, in vengeance,
Both, the voice and soul lied.

The soul knew the missing part,
That was needed by the broken heart,
It was the other one.
But the feeling of betrayal was yielding,
Now, the damage had been done.

The hearts finally withered and dried.
Alone, they tried to salve their pride.
But how could they,
They were naive, their fire long gone.
In the end, it was the soul that had let them down.
It never had tried to understand,
The intricates that the hearts did adorn.

Oh yes, we did fail to truly see,
I was chained to you,
You were chained to me.
