Chapter 23 Hilary's POV
____________________________

That night, I allowed Brayden to spend the night saying we could retrieve his clothes in the morning tomorrow.

Dinner had been silent and dull, as it had been for the past few days. All you could hear was the clanging of forks and knifes and the munching of food.

I'd begged my parents to return to school despite Anna and Brayden's protest. I honestly didn't know why u wanted to go back, either. But I couldn't just sit around and wait for this while thing to blow over!

I stared at Brayden's sleeping figure and caressed his check with my hand and watched his chest rise up and down. He slept so peacefully and soundly, that I was almost jealous.

I wanted to be able to sleep like that again. To not have to worry about the hurtful names I was being called every second of the day. To not have to look for a way to resume my life an make actual friends.

I sighed and turned away from Brayden and stared at the walls instead. The clock on the wall read 11:59 and I realized u should probably go to sleep if I was going to survive a long day at school.

And sleep is just what I did.

Waking up Brayden was no easy task. He kept mumbling something about his grandparents every time I poked him making me giggle.

I quickly grabbed my backpack and made breakfast which was really two chocolate dipped granola bars.

We rushed out the door and quickly drove to Brayden's house to retrieve his clothes.

We began driving towards school and I knew Brayden was purposely driving slowly so it would take longer to get to school.

Eventually, he pulled in to the parking lot and all eyes where on his car. Obviously people noticed that two heads were seen from the windows and not one.

"Who's in there?" Some whispered.

"Omigosh it's Hilary!"

More whispering and staring made me nervous and as guys eyes raked my body, Brayden got angry and he got angry fast.

Home room was the worst. Brayden and I had to separate and I was all alone with my evil classmates.

I sat alone at the back with my hood pulled over my head and shrunk down low in my seat. Everyone knew it was me though. It was just better not to see the world and only focus on the teachers rambling like I born all did.

I spotted Chelsea at the front of the class as she to, stared at me and I made a move to wave to her, but stopped after realizing all she'd done to me. Chelsea huffed and turned around but the moment I turned my head away from her, I knew she was looking at me again.

I just prayed the bell would finally ring, and it did. I quickly gathered my stuff and bolted out of the classroom.

For safety was not in there.

By the time lunch rolled around, most of the whispering died down and I was able to walk around with my hoodie not over my head.

I was rounding the corner to meet Brayden, when...

"Where you going Hilary?" A voice asks and I turned around to come face to face with Brayden's football team.

"No where." I said boldly, and began walking to meet Brayden when a rough hand grabbed me.

"I don't think so, little Hilary." He whispered in my ear and pinned me against the wall as I squirmed under his gaze. "Why don't you show us all what's underneath those baggy clothes? Like you showed Jace?"
