"Come on Lastrance."
Bright light and a muffled male voice then nothing.
"She'll be okay."
Light. Muffled voice. Whimpers. Nothing.
"Hold on for us."
Light. Muffled chanting. Nothing.
A voice.... no longer muffled but it's not a voice I've heard before.... it's not someone talking to me as if they are standing next to me like the others.... it's in my head speaking within me...
'Stay strong Veronica. I am near. Draw on me if you need.'
Darkness. Alight touch. Muffled whispers. Rustling. Nothing.
Pain. Cold. Light. Chirping. I can feel cold, soft hands touching my right side. I slowly open my eyes, "Oh, your highness. You've awakened. Do you feel any pain?"
"A little but... that's expected from a stab wound. Why did you call me 'your highness'?"
"Oh! That's right you don't know." She has very fair features, her are a bright blue, her have pointed tips, her are thin, and her is long and dark forest green, that is pulled up into a tight bun. She's gorgeous.
"Where am I?"
"You're in the Elven city of Drastrand Strostton."
"Drastrand Strostton, kingdom of Light."
I whisper to myself but I suppose she heard me because her smile grows and she looks at my face, "You know Elvish?"
"What?" I look at her, "You mean the translation was correct? I've never spoken a word of Elvish.... I didn't even know it was a language."
"You just translated that perfectly. What did you name your dragon?"
"Really? We agreed on Lastrance."
"Yes! Do you know what lastrance means?"
I think for a moment, "For some reason I feel like it means last chance.... "
"That's exactly what it means!" She seems so happy. I don't understand her excitement though, "The knife was made of iron and coated in silver-nitrate... so the man basically poisoned, burned, and stabbed you. When he stabbed into you he also pulled the knife down into your stomach area.... you will have to visit the infirmary to get your bandages changed before or after breakfast and after dinner. You have to be careful with your battle training and you will have to learn more and more about the different races and the rebellion and the human king."
When she talks about the rebellion she sounds proud but when she comes upon the human king, Crastor, she says it as if she's spitting on him. I wouldn't blame her from the little truth I know about him he has done terrible things to everyone, every race, but the worst was done to the Elven race.
"Do you know who it was that brought you here?"
"I remember a male's voice in the when I was moving between a shadowed state and life... now that I concentrate on the voice, though the voice was muffled and warped I believe it was Morthren's voice. He called to Lastrance, he said that I would be okay, and he begged me to hold on. There was another male voice in my head.... who was that?"
"You're right that Morthren is the one that saved you and the voice in your head was Lastrance." That makes sense. When I mentioned moving between a shadow state and life her face turns solemn, "The shadow state... do you remember anything from it?"
"There were people there... they were staring at me.... they held me and laid me in a river of sorts. It was hot and it hurt but then as I became numb the people took me out of the river and placed me on a seat.... there was one thing that they told me though..... Grent sed nem strostton. Grent sed nem ura. Grent sed nem Tentren."
Her eyes widen, " You mean the messengers of the of the dead actually talked to you? Do you know what it means?"
"Stay in the light. Stay with the land. Stay with Mother."
She nods and walks to the door, "Well I will leave you and I will inform the king, Morthren, and Lastrance that you have awakened." She smiles at me before leaving the room.
Closing my eyes to rest for a moment I think that about what she said when I woke up, 'Oh, your highness. You've awakened...' Why did she call me highness? Before I know it I've slipped into sleep exhausted from trying to haul myself out of the shadow realm. I hope they don't mind that I've fallen asleep.
~Sorry it's so short. What is your opinion about why the woman called her 'highness'?~
