(Veroncesses' POV)
I'm bouncing Zachariah as we march towards the capitol. "Miss?"
"Yes?" I stop and let the soldier catch up to me.
"You shouldn't fight."
We begin walking side-by-side and I raise my brow at his declaration, "And why is that?"
"Ma'am you're holding the reason. You are his mother now and he needs you alive."
"He will have me alive but I will not sit idely by as you men are out in the field risking your lives. I'm going to fight right alongside you." Zachariah starts kicking and when I look at him his face is contorted and tears are running down his cheeks. "Zachariah..." I bring my voice higher and rub his cheeks, he looks up at me and smiles.
"You are a mother, you cannot fight."
"I can and will. You need a leader in your ranks and this is now my fight as well as yours. Zachariah will be safe with his wet-nurse while I am fighting beside you."
"Are you sure? What if you don't make it out?"
"I'll make arrangments for Zachariah if that does happen."
"We just don't want you getting hurt more than you already have for this cause."
"This cause is the only reason I'm still alive."
"We will do everything in our power to protect you." I smile and he catches up with hus unit. I feel a tug on my hair and I look down to see Zachariah's fist wrapped in my hair. I gently take my hair from him.
The young woman, his wet-nurse, waks beside me, "It's about time I feed him." Nodding I hand him to the woman. As she takes him into her arms he begins kicking and squirming, "Miss, I can't get him to sit still and feed. I'm sorry..." Shaking my head I pluck a flower, bringing it to my lips I whisper a spell. Taking Zachariah from the wet-nurse I place the flower to his mouth and he drinks the milk flowing from the flower. "Miss, you won't be able to leave him with me, he throws a fit every time you're out of his sight."
"Then what do you suggest I do?"
"Stay behind. Don't fight."
"That's not an option." Bouncing the baby I keep the flower to his lips, 'Julius.'
'Yes V?'
'Could you ask Morthren if he could come here, to the back, please?'
'Yes, he'll be there shortly.'
'Thank you.'
Soon I see Morthren making his way towards me, "How is our little mother?"
"I'm fine."
Morthren smiles at me, "What do you need to talk to me about?"
"During the battle would you mind staying in camp and watching Zachariah?"
Smiling he nods, "Of course I will watch him."
"Thank you so much!" I wrap my free arm around his shoulders. He pats my back and kisses my head.
