Dipper awoke somewhere. He wasn't quite sure where, but it was a place with a lot of people.
"Brobro! You're awake!" A brown-haired girl in a sweater said, and reached out to hug him.
Brobro? Is that my name? He thought to himself. Huh. That's weird.
"Who are you?" He asked the hyperactive girl. "Where am I? What is this?" Questions poured from his head.
A redhead next to the girl blinked. "Wait, you don't know who we are?" She echoed. "Is this some sort of amnesia thing? Dude, you've been in a coma for a week."
Dipper scratched his head. These people are weird. He took the time to scan the area. Seemed like a normal nurse's office. He was on one of those uncomfortable doctor beds. The amnesiac twelve-year-old sat up at the edge of the bed to see who was in the room.
The redhead, the hyperactive girl, a fat guy with a green question mark shirt, and an old man with a fez all stared at him with worried eyes.
"Wh-Who are you?" He repeated, not really knowing what else to say.
"Man, whatever hit you must've hit really hard." The old man adjusted the tie on his suit. "Your nickname's Dipper. I'm your Great Uncle Stan, and I run the Mystery Shack, where your guys are staying for the summer."
"I'm Mabel! Your twin sister! Your nick-nickname is Brobro, and you're a nerd, and you like Dungeons Dungeons and More Dungeons, and one time the game came to life and you got stolen by a-"
The redhead stepped in front of her and coughed. "Mabel, cool down." She whispered. "I'm Wendy. I work at the Mystery Shack." The fat guy stepped forward.
"Hey dood! I'm Soos. Mystery Shack handy man!" He tossed a wrench up into the air, and it hit his head with a clang. He rubbed it. "Ow. Wait, wait."
And with that, Stan put his hands in his pockets and left the room quietly. Mabel shot a nervous look his way as he exited, and the young girl followed him out.

Mabel didn't know what to think. One minute, she was having the best summer ever with her twin brobro. The next minute, she's following her Gruncle Stan out of his amnesiac brother's hospital room. She skidded to a stop as Stan escaped into the Men's room, and released a sigh that whistled through her braces.
"Gruncle Stan, what's wrong?" She asked sweetly, lightly tapping on the door. "What's going on? Will Dipper be.... Okay...?" Silence met her call. A few minutes later, for what had felt like hours, the old con-man finally opened the door and peeked his head out.
His eyes were red, and Mabel could tell his suit was dappled with tears. This made her feel even worse. Gruncle Stan never cries! She pulled him out of the bathroom, and squeezed him tightly.
Stan sighed. "Kid, I promised your parents you would be safe," he told her. "And now because of my brainiac brother, he's probably gone forever." Mabel let go of Stan so she could see him, a weak smile on her face.
"Great Uncle Ford didn't do this!" The twelve-year-old tried to put a positive spin on things. "He loves Dipper. He loves all of us... Right?" Stan hesitated.
"Yeah, I know he does. I tried to go and talk to him, but when I entered the vending machine's code it wouldn't open."
"Why not?"
"He shut us out. He won't talk to any of us."
Mabel thought for a moment. "Well... He's probably just.... Shaken..." She answered, her voice barely a whisper. She wanted to cry, but she held it in. "I mean, they were together, wherever they were, when it happened. Maybe he thinks it's his fault?"
Stan didn't reply. He simply just strolled back into Dipper's room, pushing past the nurse who had come to check on him.
As she saw the old man shut the door, Mabel dashed into the Women's bathroom. She held in her tears, wiping the ones that escaped on her sweater. Dipper isn't gone, she tried to convince herself. He's just missing something. That's all.
Suddenly, Mabel's tears stopped fighting her. She looked up, and could almost see her gaze looking back at her with hope.
That's it! Her normal excitement returned, and she knew what she had to do.
She sped out of the bathroom, down the hall, and bursted into the hospital room. Dipper jumped in surprise, spitting out the water from the glass the nurse had given him.
Mabel stretched her arms wide, and wrapped them around Dipper in a huge anaconda hug.
"I'm going to fix you up, Dipper!"
