Standing in her room Hope feels like a stranger. In the mirror her brown hair is pulled back in to a ponytail with lose pieces framing her face. Her wide green eyes stare back at her, concealing the horrors from her past. She peered out the window remembering where a fairy had stood, wings producing from it's back. Sunlight filters into her room illuminating the dust particles in the air. Today was the first day of school. She had been wanting to come out of the hospital ever since she was put in there. A week later after medicine for her concussion and recovery time the doctors had let her go. As she stands in front of the mirror she is fighting within herself. All the things she once knew were ripped away from her. Gone. Now knowing that she belongs to a magical world beyond her comprehension is what scares her the most. Breaking her train of line her mother calls out calling for her to come down.

"School time." her mother yells
Great. Get ready for the stares, Hope thinks.

It is one thing going missing, it's another to deal with the whiplash. Aka girl talk.

Even though it was a nice day outside Hopes mother had insisted on driving her.
The car purred silently out of the driveway and Hope pressed her head against the chilled window and sighed. Knowing what to wear for her first day back had proven difficult. In the end she chose skinny jeans and her doc martins. Even though she was silent, internally Hopes mind was a tangled, raging beast. She didn't know if she'd ever recover from what she had experienced.

When the car pulled into the parking lot several heads swivelled as she jumped out of the car. Amber and Em stand waiting at the front gates for her. Amber and Em both look amazing for school and have their hair straightened and their converse basically immaculate. Bystanders stop to gwark as they walk past. Walking through the cast iron gates and into school felt like a lie. Thats what her life was now, a lie. She kept her eyes down turned at the ground with her pack slung over her back.

"Are you feeling better?" Em says making small talk.

Hope shrugs because she doesn't know what to say.

What can she say?

"I helped sort out your timetable with Mr Lennord and he put you in our classes because he thought you might want some time to settle again." Amber says lightly.

"We were wondering of you wanted to come shopping with us on the weekend maybe?" Em says this as she's been practising what she was going to say.

"Cool, thanks guys." Hope says but her mind isn't listening.

Her mind is numb with grief and loss and she knows a crack is already appearing in the mask she practised this morning.

Would she ever heal?

Just before she could make a break away to the bathroom to pull herself together a deep honey rich voice sounded from behind.

"So your Hope Thompson right?" The voice says, full of curiosity.

Hope swivels around to face the person that she didn't know would change her life forever.

"Yes that's right." She replied stopping half way gazing at him.

His face is perfectly sculpted with angular features and light teasing grey eyes. His hair is gold.... Wait... Brown? And his lips quirk up in a amused smile whilst he gazes intently at Hope. He is so close she could almost feel his breath against her skin.

Oh boy Hope thought.

"I'm Aiden Thomas" He said, his honey smooth voice echoing.

"I kno..." Hope begins but she stops short.

"Nice to meet you." She said instead feeling her roots brightening, flushing to her cheeks. And she clutched her text books closer to her chest.

How could she be doing this she thought flirting with a boy after everything she's done!? And she internally scolds herself. But she couldn't help staring.

Before she could look away a blonde chick sauntered up to him, ruffling his hair. Her lips smacked together flashing her sticky Victoria's Secret lipgloss. The girl is wearing clothes Hope thought would be better suited for the runway. Hope didn't even know they guy but she felt an unnatural pull towards him. The blonde kept talking to him and ruffling his hair, his feet shuffled but his eyes never left Hope.

Amber led Hope away from them through the densely packed crowd. Her face still burning. Sending goose bumps scattering along her skin.

"I can't believe that!!!" She exclaims fanning herself dramatically.

"He was totally flirting!" she says sounding envious and impressed.

Hope had to bite her cheek to stop her lips from quirking at the edges. Smoothing down her hair and pressing her clammy palms against her thighs she tried to mentally collect herself. She didn't know what but there was definitely something odd about him.

After recess, Hope leans against her locker, and allows the world to pass by in slow motion. Closing her eyes she finds her white space where she can take her mind off things. Only distantly aware of her surroundings she try's to find relaxation. Opening her eyes again she sees a flash of wings and a small body disappearing down a hall. Hope gasps and doubles back against the lockers getting a glance from bystanders. Almost stumbling, she jogs down the hall where she last saw the fairy. Surely someone else saw it? Passing the literature rooms, her doc martins scrape against the Lino. She didn't want to be abrupt and scare it away.
"Hello." She whispers
A flash of light. Wings. A fairy.
Hope gasps as the fairy appears before her, wings shimmering and glowing. Dressed in a small flowing dress she stood half of Hopes height. Golden hair in braids trailed down her shoulders. Something was familiar about her......

"Abella!" she shouts in excitement

The fairy smiled at her, but it didn't reach her eyes.

"Why are you here?" She gasps and splutters.

"I have come to warn you." She replies softly

"What?!! About what?"

"Armaros.Don't trust anyone" She whispers.

Hope shudders, his name sending a chill up her spine and she had never seen Abella this distraught.

"Do you know." Hope let out a strangled yelp

"Yes. I'm soo sorry about your father." Abella looks truly sorry

Hopes eyes stung and she didn't know if she could control herself.

"Hope please listen. You must trust no one. Armaros's helpers are on the move. And you are in danger." Abella was shaking now and she moved to comfort her.
Hope was wary and her muscles were tensed to spring at any moment.

"I have to go." She stutters at Hope

Hope was crying now. Silently, tears seeped from her eyes. The strangling mess this all was. There wasn't one person who understood her. A flash of light sent the hall illuminating, and Abella was gone. Hope slid down onto the cold Lino and cried silently where no one would see her. Whilst getting to her feet she saw a splotched figure moving towards her. Muscles tensing and fire shooting throughout her body she prepared to react.

"Are you ok." Aiden says. Moving out of the shadow the light cast a light on his face making him look even more like a sculpted statue. His poker face giving away nothing. Jaw set and eyes seeping into hers.

Hope gasps and fumbles against the wall. Heart throbbing in her chest a heavy rhythm, she was scared he'd hear.

Aiden Thomas is a guy of many mysteries.... And so Hope would soon discover......

To be continued....
