Aiden pov;

His skin tingles after he releases her hand. Even though her smile is shown on the outside he knows it is different in her mind. He hopes this date is something she will remember, as they sip on their creme caramel drinks. Every glance he takes at her feels stolen. He feels unworthy. How could he do this to her. He said their always the same. But I feel my doubt even though I know the choice has already been made, he thinks. He hopes that Hope doesn't read his face even though he is sure it is as hard as steel. I wanted this, he thinks sourly. Yeah but then I got to know her, he thinks again. Hair falls into her eyes as she smiles and not holding back, he pushes it away. Hope is so innocent, wide eyes staring back at her. How could you, he thinks to himself. He feels a great hatred. Not towards her of course. But his presence leaves a trail of sorts. Not only physical. But a bone deep chill that roots its self in the base of his bones, tormenting his mind.

Will it ever end?

But one question nags his mind.

What is the price he must pay, to save the one he loves from a fate worse than death?

********
Hope Pov;

The forest is deathly still. Too still. The stillness scares her more than the rush of people. Dusk approaches as she leans against the rough, scratching bark of a tree. It's leaves create a canopy above her, shielding her. Her mind was spinning. Her date with Aiden had been perfect. She loved the way he held her hand as she walked home and caught sneaky glances at her whilst they walked in the afternoon light with salty air tossing her hair. The way she stood on her doorstep, blushing as he complimented her, looking at the ground. How he made her feel so special. Made her feel important.

Gosh... I'm rambling she thinks and tries to focus on the task at hand and not Aidens hand grazing against her own.

A rustling in the trees refocuses her attention. Hope closes her eyes, using her human senses. She doesn't need to open her eyes to know Patrick stands obscured by the shadows in the shrubs. The tense in the air simply thickens, alerting her of the other person now with her.

"You really need to work on your timings." She says simply.

"Thanks for meeting me here." He says and Hope takes the chance to look at Patrick properly as she cracks and eye open. Patrick stands about 6m in front of her wearing the usual grey slacks and tired expression.

"You really need to update you closet." Hope says, lacking humour.

He ignores the snide comment swiftly.

"You need to know how to protect yourself. Meaning: Learning to make a portal. If you want a quick get way into another dimension from him then you will need to know how to make one. And you need to know about imst Projection." he says matter of factly.

Hope sighs theatrically, slumping her shoulders. His gaze hardens and Hope knows not to push.

The way he says him, sends a shiver down her spine. She didn't have to ask because she already knows. It is the darkness. The sudden shiver. The reason for the blood curdling screams that ricochet throughout the night. Even though Hope knew she was safe with Patrick, her dad's friend, she can't stop the soul gripping panic that passes through her. Patrick is right. She can't let the ones die for her. She needs to know.

"Tell me." She says. Patrick knows what her minding is processing and nods reluctantly.

"First a portal." He says. "Portals can be used almost anywhere. They can help you get to different dimensions within the universe. They are pure elements. Once you have control you should be able to manipulate."

"How can I manipulate it of I'm not magical. I'm just human." Hope says quietly.

"Because your not human. Your an Ambrosia. With a human mother and magical father." He says confidently.

Hope gasps fumbling against the tree trunk.

"Your... No. No, that's not true." She says defiantly.

"Hope dear, you are Ambrosia." He says sadly. Even though it took herself to deny it, she knew he was right. She knew in her bones this was her even though every fibre in her body turned to defence mode. She had been deceived too many times. But this was not a lie. She knew. She is this creature. She is Ambrosia.

To be continued....

Aiden is perfect in Hopes eyes but what if she's wrong? What is the meaning of his emotions? And what will become of Hopes new found status? Will it save her and her loved ones or be it result in a cruel end?

Hey everyone,
Hope you like it xx
