            AS STRAIGHT AS A CIRCLE

michael+

walking through the halls on the first week back to school was always a struggle for michael. claire did walk alongside him through the crowded halls but usually the shouts of "make way! half blind guy coming through!" usually just got the pair weird stares and no help in michaels case. he had learned to just stick his shoulder out and bump into people who were too busy talking to their friends about something that only mattered in their world to notice michael, even though his fiery red hair should get their attention most time.

things that get noticed are the kids with vibrant hair, loud voices, or popular kids when they get a haircut or wear a new piece of clothing that was bought with daddies money. things that were not noticed (or trying not to be) was luke at the moment, but standing at 6'4" with a quiff of blonde hair wasn't helping his case. luke was minding his business and squeezing through the assemblage of students trying to make it to class so he would have time to bury his mind in a book until the students got too loud to focus , the bell rang, or the teacher walked in and started speaking, which meant luke had to do the first day routine of being the new kid which included the teacher announcing the newbie in class (because I don't stick out enough already, luke always thought) then luke having to stand up and say his name and occasionally where he moved from.

michael had just finished switching his supplies and was walking away from his locker (claire by his side, of course) when someone ran straight into him. michael's pencil bag slipped off his binder and on to the floor and he bent down to pick it up which caused everything else to slip from his grasp, the floor now was holding his items instead of him.

"hey!"the red head heard claire's voice ring out.

"watch where you're going!"

"tell him that!" michael heard another voice replying, obviously referring to him.

michael sighed and stood up, ready to give yet another spiel about being half blind and having to make sure to watch where the fuck you're going because he can't see anything on his right side.

"i'm half blind," michael spoke. "I can't see anything from here over, oh fuck sorry."

michael had raised his arm to demonstrate his area where he could not see when he felt his hand collide with the flesh of someones face. he turned his head to see the boy he saw this morning and his heart skipped a beat, his cheeks heating up and turning nearly the same colour as his hair.

"oh wow, I'm really sorry, I would never want to m-mess up a face as g-good looking as-as yours," michael stuttered out, mentally smirking at himself for being almost smooth. claire gave him a small nudge on the shoulder and he worried he might've been too straight forward but was relieved when he noticed luke's cheeks tinting a light pink and a smile spreading across his lips.

"i'm michael and you are?"

"luke,"

luke took this opportunity to ask the attractive boy he just met where his next class was, because he realized he actually was headed in the wrong direction.

"hey," luke continued. "I-I have n-no idea where my n-next class is, c-could you give me some direction?"

claire snatched luke's schedule and put her finger on the paper, sliding it down to the 7th hour class and teacher.

"Ms. Williams, her class is right by our next class, you can follow us." claire spoke. michael gave luke a reassuring smile and luke felt butterflies erupt in his stomach.

as the trio walled down the hall, claire leaned over and whispered in michaels ear.

"boy, you're as straight as a circle."
