MONTAG MIKSTOPH

michael sighed as he leaned against the brick wall of the highschool. he watched as the rain came down in sheets outside, drenching anything in its path in 3 seconds flat. and of course, there was his bike in the metal bike rack, waiting to be rode home. all of michaels friends had offered to give him rides, but michael liked the occasional fresh air he got and his house wasn't too far away. plus, they didn't have enough money for the extra gas let alone to give michael his own car.

michael was not about to ride home in the rain, it was far too dangerous with his sight and who the fuck would want to bike home in the rain.

he considered his options as he occasionally replied to the people he acted like he liked when they said bye. he could call claire, but he knew that her volleyball practice was still going on because he practically has her schedule memorized. he had ashton, calum, and hailey, who he was pretty sure they were all free, but his anxiety insisted that he would be annoying them so he stayed stationary, gazing out of the window like he was in a sad chick flick.

"h-hey," michael heard a voice next to him and looked to his left to see luke, a slight smile on his face and a backpack slung on his broad shoulders.

"hi," michael smiled back. "i love this state," he said, gesturing outside. "perfectly reflects my mood."

luke laughed and flowers grew in michaels lungs and suffocated him, leaving him unable to breathe, but luke didn't notice.

"is that your bike out there?" luke asked michael. "it looks about as sad as you just made your life sound, all alone in the rain like that."

"you're correct. i-"

"do you need a ride?"

michael looked at luke, luke looking as surprised as michael was at the words that just came out of his mouth. michael's heart rate sped up, he did not want luke seeing his home. all it was was a shabby, under average townhouse where everyone else who went to this school's parents made enough money for them at least to live in an average two story house.

michael swallowed, he didn't realize how dry his throat had gotten. "n-nah, you don't have to, i'll be okay."

"dude, it's pouring out there. i'll give you a ride."

michaels mind reeled with thoughts. will he judge me? what if he gets embarrassed to be seen around me what if he tells other people i live in a shit hole then they avoid me what if what if what if

michael looked back at luke who looked sincere now, not surprised. he also didn't look like he wanted to bring michael to an unknown forest and wear his skin, which was good. he just looked like luke.

"sure," michael replied finally. the red haired boy added an "i'd like that," at the end, just to hint at the boy and watch his cheeks turn a light shade of pink.

"this turn right her- aww,"

"shit," luke muttered under his breath. "i missed the turn didn't i."

"yeah, but don't worry it's okay," michael replied to luke, trying to make the lad feel better as he made a u turn.

michael wanted to sink into a hole and disappear as they turned into his neighborhood. he watched out the window as the houses got smaller and he felt like someone was chopping down the flowers in his lungs and cutting up the organs in the process.

"this one on the right," michael squeaked to luke as they pulled up next to his house.

luke looked around, feeling slight sympathy for the red head as he realized he barely had a backyard or nice neighbors because all of them seemed to have their blinds drawn, fences up, and no decorations whatsoever. michael's house was better, cute fall garden decorations were planted in the ground in the forsythia bushes under the windows and a small fairy garden under the bleeding heart plants by the front door.

"hey, could i have your number?" the words slipped between lukes lips before he could stop them and they entered michaels lungs and made the flowers bloom again. michaels eyes locked with lukes and the blondes heart skipped a beat.

"to give you a ride to school tomorrow morning, i mean. your bike is still at the school,"

fireworks were going off in michaels head. he didn't want to avoid him? he didn't hate him? he wasn't going to have to move to africa and change his name? this was good. and he didn't have to walk or bug claire for a ride, she would never be able to wake up early enough.

"yeah, yeah that'd work perfect," michael responded.

michael and luke exchanged numbers, and both boys went to bed that night with smiles so bright they shined beams of light on the ceilings.
