We landed in New York and the scorching heat hit me. We walked over to get the suitcases which held the small amount we had left. Seth has family here in New York and they are allowing us to stay with them. As we exited the airport, we found a black SUV waiting for us, and a man dressed in a business suit and shades. We entered the car and had a relatively quiet ride, until Lucas spoke up.
“Eve and Melany need to change their outer appearance. Just enough to not be recognizable by others.”
Melany, of course, spoke up, protesting, “It took me years to grow out my hair. I am not cutting it! But…I’m willing to compromise by ironing it down.”
I chuckled at her effort, but well, she is a girl and most aren’t willing to cut their hair. I’m totally fine with it, to be honest, considering the extreme heat in New York.
When we got to our destination, I was pretty shocked at how big the place was. It looked like a castle and it was surrounded by forest; I’m guessing that would be because they’re werewolves. A handsome man in his mid-30s came out, accompanied by a beautiful woman in her late-20s. Seth exited the SUV first with Melany.
“Sweetie I’m glad you’re here. You know what time of year it is, considering the weather, but yet you still came so late,” said the beautiful woman, who I presumed to be Seth’s mother. He smiled at her and his voice took on a gentle tone.
“I apologize. Lucas decided to adopt a human and we ended up staying longer than we expected.”
Lucas got out of the car, followed by Axel, Jasper and River. I noticed Seth’s parents were shocked when they saw River. Everyone was saying their hellos; I thought it would be okay for me to get out. As I stepped out of the SUV and approached them, Seth’s mom came up to me and hugged me, saying, “You look just like her!”
I stared up at her when she released me and noticed a few tears on her face. I was curious now.
“Who do I remind you of?”
“You look just like a friend of mine. She had a daughter but I heard she left her here, being unable to keep her,” she said as she took my hand and led me inside. When we were in, she led me to a picture of a beautiful woman with black hair and blue eyes. She smiled as I looked at the picture in awe, and then asked, “Would you like to meet her?”
My head shot up right away and I nodded excitedly.
