Lucas gently turned me to face him and placed me against the wall and leaned down to give me a kiss on my forehead. “Eve when we get home, I’ll gather everyone together and I’ll tell you everything.” He said while grabbing my hand and walking towards his car. The car drive over was relatively silent, when Lucas turned and asked “What did the women mean by ‘HE was released from jail two days ago’?” At first I stayed silent then I said in a flat tone “If you can’t trust me, why should I trust you?” He dropped the subject and like on cue we reached the apartment building.
We got out of the car and made our way to the apartment. When we got in Seth, Axel, Melany, Jasper, and River were at the table waiting. Melany spoke in her annoyed tone “Bitch do you know how much trouble you made in the last two days that you’ve been here?!” Lucas was about to speak when I interrupted and said “Well I don’t think that’s my fault considering, for one I didn’t know the whole story because I wasn’t trusted.” She snorted “Who said you are now?!” Lucas spoke “Melany! Shut up you’re walking on thin ice if you keep insulting her.”
Seth cleared his throat and said in an emotionless tone “Well can we get this moving along if Eve is going back to social services…” Lucas spoke up and interrupted him mid sentence “She isn’t going back there so we have plenty of time to explain everything to her.” I left the room for an hour or so, to take a shower and get changed. When I went out to the room, to my surprise Jasper was the first to speak “Eve I heard that River gave you the basics, or at least what we are.” I simply said “He did.”
Jasper spoke in an even and relaxed voice “Eve we can’t really go into details now like we hoped because the “Αίματα” will be after us soon since they discovered where we are. We have decided to move to New York, it’s a crowded place so it might take them a while to find us.” I actually let out a breath I didn’t know I was holding. I could get away from him even if it’s for a day more. River stepped forward, grabbed my hand and led me into my room and locked the door behind him. “Eve who is he?” I couldn’t think straight how did he know?! But I decided to ask a question first “And he is who?”
“Eve you know exactly who I’m talking about, even if Lucas didn’t. And yes I did read this from his mind, and no I can’t read yours for some reason.” River said in an undistinguishable tone. I wasn’t sure how to react so I spoke “I don’t mean to be rude but I don’t need to tell you. This has nothing to do with you, and considering you are the one with the mask on shouldn’t I be asking you questions instead of you peeving into my personal history?” He started to chuckle “You might have a point there and I will be telling you what I am, but to gain trust don’t you have to give some first?”
“He was the first guardian I had, he treated me kindly the first couple of weeks. Then one day when I came back from school I went up stairs to see if he was home, which he was with a woman. He came out screaming hysterically and he started to beat me. The man was a sadist and the more he hit me, the more I screamed and that made him laugh with joy. He got taken to jail but as he left he said I would regret it, that’s why I was scared when she said he was out. Is that all you wanted to know or do you want to know about what all the other ones did too?” I didn’t notice I was speaking in an uneven tone as I turned around and asked him if he could leave me alone.
River took a quick step forward and hugged me, he didn’t say anything and he didn’t do anything else he just hugged me. Lately I’ve been coming way to emotional; it must be all this affection towards me. After what seemed hours he turned me around and said “I’m sorry I didn’t mean to make you go through that again.” I smiled up to him as he continue “Eve I’ll tell you who I am, but I think it make be easier to show you, though I don’t think I’ll get the chance today.” Lucas came into the room, at first he just stared at me and River but then he quickly said “We need to get out of here, they’ll be here soon.” With this a whole new adventure was about to start, hopefully it doesn’t leave me anymore broken.
