RUBY'S POV

******************************************************************************************************************

I wake up to a loud banging on my bedroom door and the sound of my Mum screaming like crazy. I get up and open it. "What's the matter? It's the middle of the night!" I ask sleepily.

"Ruby get up now! There's a fire downstairs!"My Mum says. She's been crying. "Oh Ruby I came into your room when I first realised what was happening but you weren't there. I've been so worried. I thought you were dead!"

"Oh mum." I say, giving her a hug. "I went outside before the fire started. I must have been comming up the stairs when you were looking! I'm fine! Really! Look."

"What shall we do? The phone's downstairs and so is my mobile! How could it have started!?" She sobs.

"I know what to do Mum, wait here." I say. Hold on! What am I gonna do? I think. And suddenly, as if my body is working on it's own without me wanting it to, I find myself running down the stairs towards the fire!

"RUBY! WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING!" I hear my mum scream "YOU COULD DIE!"

I want to say: 'I don't know what I'm doing mum! Help me!' but my lips won't open. I hear my mum crying and I want to turn around and go back but someting is stopping me. I can feel the heat of the flames now. I reach the bottom of the stairs. Please, let me go back, I don't wanna die. I think. But no, I carry on walking towards the flire. I feel so so scared. I'm too young to die. I keep walking amonst the flames I don't feel myself burning. I reach the kitchen table. It's black now, but it hasn't collasped yet. I notice the gem. I find myself picking it up. There's a tiny flame inside it, I hold it and, now knowing that for some reason I can't get burnt, I walk back and go upstairs.

"Ruby!" My mum sobs giving me a hug, "Don't ever do that again! You frightened the life out of me!"

I try to talk but I can't because an odd tingling feeling in my arm distracts me. It looks completely normal though. It's the arm I'm holding the gem in. Suddenly I'm knocked off my feet by an invisible force. I scream. I hear my mum scream to as the fire seems to sweep up the stairs and like a snake it come straight at me. I put both my hands in front of me and brace myself for death. But the fire doesn't hit me or my mum, it goes into my hand! I scream like never before. Two minutes later, the fire has gone, the gem has gone too. All that's left is a flame shaped mark on my hand. My mum must have run out the room because she not there.

Then everying goes white.
