"So what's there to do around here?" She asked while they walked.
The day had gone swimmingly besides Calum realizing that he has every single class with the girl that made his head spin and heart twirl.
Most of his anxiety had seemed to settle. Or at least he thought so. The fact that it was after school, where they finally had a chance to converse, and he wasn't making an absolute fool out of himself made suffice reasoning.
"What exactly do you mean?" He replied unsure of her question.
"What this there to do around here? It's kinda of a small suburban place, the opposite of what I'm used to. Not a lot to do, right?"
Calum was stumped. What was there to do here? People usually go on with their boring lives. School, work, home, and repeat. It's truly unbearable.
"A lot of teenagers have parties and stuff but other than that there isn't really a lot to do here. The malls have shitty stores and everyone goes to the diner to fulfill some sort of 70's movies aesthetic, so the only place that's safe is the record store and ice cream parlor. Plus people sometimes hangout in the abandoned buildings."
"Eh, I guess we could just hang out at your place then." She stated so forwardly that Calum's heart sped up and he didn't know how to respond.
"Shit sorry. It was rude to invite myself. Its cool right if we just chill?" She asks, her eyebrows knotted in curiosity.
"Yeah, yeah that's cool more than fine no problem at all." Words tumbled out of this mouth at a rate he couldn't control and he was left standing there a nervous mess.
"Your friends seem like cool people." She smiles.
"Yeah I'm sorry about Michael interrogating you on your Marvel knowledge. He can be a dick sometimes."
"Nah dude that's fine. He's the greatest. I had a friend like him back home."
They walked in silence and as they got closer to his house. Calum can't help but wonder why she wanted to go to his house. It's nothing lavish. It was just a simple house.
They enter and instead of sitting on the couch, which he initially thought was the plan, she asked where his room was.
Calum had pretty much gotten to the point of confusion where he decided to just go along with whatever was happening. Of course she was one of the most beautiful females he had ever laid his eyes on, but the idea getting intimate wasn't on the top of his agenda. He led her to his room and attempted to regulate his sporadic breathing.
"You know you can tell a lot about a person based on the condition they live in." She states waltzing around discarded clothes and cd cases.
"Thanks Doctor Phil." He replies a bit more harsh than intended.
She glanced at him with those brown eyes tinged with amber and let out a small chuckle.
She took a couple of minutes, of which were filled with palpable tension, to take in his posters and the series of miscellaneous objects scattered on his dresser.
"You play?" She asks pulling him out of his thoughts. His eyes traveled up the the pick positioned between her fingers, painted a deep red color.
"I used to try to play the guitar but I was awful at it," His eyes flashed over to the instrument hidden and discarded in his closet," So now I stick to the bass" The topic of music placed him at ease.
"Do you still have the guitar?" She questioned eagerly.
Calum made his way over to the closet muttering and making excuses about its current state. Sure it was dusty but all the strings were intact and it wasn't anything fine tuning couldn't fix. When he turned around she was sitting on his bed pick in hand. She strummed it once and the horrid sound made her face grimace. Calum could help but laugh. He was entranced by her. He watched her fiddle and tune the guitar by ear in an amount of time that was unfeasible. As she began to strum he watched her hands move effortlessly. He couldn't catch on to the specific song until her voice matched perfectly and she began to sing.
Roxanne. You don't have to put on the red light.
Her voice was soulful and melodic. He took in her features. Her eyes were closed and her face was a mixture of passion and pain. The sight alone caused him to get weak in the knees. He would have joined in earlier but he didn't trust his voice. He hadn't always been confident in his singing voice, especially around new people. However, halfway through the song he joined harmonizing instantly, which caused her eyes to snap open locking with his. The song ended shortly after and there was an palpable feeling of tension that couldn't be described. They were both narrowed in on each other and took in the sight before them.
"You're good." She states not breaking eye contact.
He looking down sheepishly, "I'm not, really. But thanks anyways."
She sighed, placed the guitar on the edge and laid down on the bed under her."Come here." She stated and Calum complied. It had seemed to him that this whole day was filled with "wtf is this girl on" moments. He laid his back on the bed beside her leaving room for there to be no touching. She turned to face him, hand supporting her head and she took in his features.
"I'm serious, you're good. I've heard a lot of singers before, you've got something no one else has."
He wasn't sure as to how things got here. One minute he has going though his uncountable existential crisis and the next he has a gorgeous human being in front of him.
He looked down feeling heat rise to his face and his ears.
"You're so nervous all the time" she chuckled laying back on her back and closing her eyes, meditating. She wondered if it was because of her.
"HOLY SHIT CALUM HAS A GIRL IN HIS ROOM!"
And with that, the mood was pretty much slaughtered.**********************
