Chapter 3 : Person of my dream

For the first time since she had left the hospital, Ally dreamed. The last seven nights were all just black, without any scenes or noise or anything. She didn't mind cause at least; her mind could completely rest during the night.

This time, she dreamed she was at her house, laid down on her bed looking at the ceiling. Everything felt so real, as if it was something that had already happened before, like a memory. Each little thing of her room was where it was supposed to be. She felt like she was a spectator. She could look through her own eyes but she couldn't make a move. It was like watching what she was doing from the inside without having control over anything. She was just there, looking at what her brain wanted her to see. It was the weirdest feeling ever and she was feeling uncomfortable, unsafe.

Suddenly, the doorbell rang. Ally, still passive, watched her body move to the door. It was incredibly fast, like she was running. Why would she run so fast to the front door ? It was probably just some random guy trying to sell her some stupid miraculous gadget she would never use. At the moment she arrived to the door, she could hear her own heart beating really loud and fast, as if it was echoed. It was then the only thing she could hear. Her hand reached the handle but when the door opened, the dream stopped. Someone was shaking her gently in the real world.

Ally opened her eyes slowly. It was her mum. She came by to leave some shopping bags full of food.

Ally's mom – "Wake up, I've brought some food since it's hard for you lately to go to the supermarket. Just go through the bags and tell me if there's something missing. I'll pick it up."

Ally – "Oh hey mum... You could not have chosen a worse moment to wake me up !"

Ally's mom – "I'm sorry sweetie are you in pain? Get back to sleep if you want to, I'll take care of the bags!"

Ally – "No, it's just that I had my first dream since ... the accident"

Ally's mom – "Yeah, I know, you were talking in your sleep"

Ally was surprised, she didn't usually do that.

Ally – "What was I saying ?"

Ally's mom – "You kept mumbling 'I missed you', who were you talking about ?"

Ally – "I'd like to know... I think I just... remembered something mom. Something from before the accident"

Ally's mom dropped all the bags and rushed to her daughter. She should have been happy that she was getting better and could even have a glimpse of the past two months but instead, she looked worried. Ally was too busy being confused to notice it. She kept staring at the floor trying to search in her memory who she was so happy and impatient to see. And that heartbeat... It was so intense, it surely wasn't just a visit from a friend.

Ally's mom – "What do you remember?"

Her mom was trying her best not to sound scared and worried but her tone betrayed her. Still, Ally didn't seem to notice.

Ally – "I'm sure of it. It was a memory. I was in my room looking at the ceiling and then someone was at the door but it must have been someone really important cause I remember rushing to the door."

She insisted on the word 'remember' because she felt like she was making progress in her recovery.

Ally's mom – "And who was it...?"

Ally – "I... I don't know, you woke me up before I had a chance to see"

Ally's mom was very pleased. She was no longer feeling guilty about waking her up. If she could keep her daughter from remembering certain things, she would do it.

Ally's mom – "Maybe it was Steven, you used to like him very much !"

Ally – "No that's not possible, I have not seen him in the past two months. Who was it then ?"

Ally's mom – "Don't push yourself too much, you have plenty of time to recall. I'm sure it was just your brain mixing your past and the Steven's recent visit"

Ally – "How do you know about his..."

Ally's mom – "Okay ! I have to go, I'll be back another day. Stay safe and rest !"

Her mom kissed her forehead and quickly got out of the house. "Well" thought Ally "that was weird".
