I checked outside too see how much snow there was. At least five inches. Good enoupgh for a dog sled. I opened t he box of Pop-Tarts and put them on a pan too heat them on a fire. I filled the dog bowls with food and woke up Mckenzie. It was about 11:00 now. Good time to get the horses and the weapons.
Mckenzie sat up looking well rested and I handed her a pop tart. She ate it happily and asked, "when are we leaving?"
"As soon as we finish a snack and hook up the dogs." I said as I reached over and grabbed the dog harnesses. The dogs tails waged at the sight.
I made sure the for wheeler key was in my pocket. Sure enoupgh it was. I sighed relieved and finished my Pop-Tart and got the harnesses hooked to the sled after brushing the snow off it.
I got the dogs hooked up and Mckenzie got warm clothes on and we got her on the sled, me on the four wheeler, ans we were off.
I grabbed my bow arrows and threw it in the sled. I got my dads rifle and pistol and hid 'secret' stash of ammo.
Me and Mckenzie went in the house and lookers around for things too take, knowing that mom and dad had been obviously arrested.
We searched until we came into our room. We looked around looking for things too take whelm I heard a familiar voice.
"Well, look who decided too come back."
My mothers voice.
I froze and looked over. I glared at her knowing I had her knowing I had the upper hand.
"We didnt return we came back too grab a few things." I told her in a stern tone I would never have used before.
She looked surprised knowing the same thing. "You wanna talk to me like that again?!" She screamed coming closer.
I reached in my pocket and pulled out the pistol and took aim.
"Not a step closer or I shoot!" I said sternly. She stopped and her eyes widened and she took a step back. She then clenched her fist and growled,
"You wouldn't dare."I cocked the gun.
"Im going too call the police and your going too leave us alone for the rest of our lives! You and Brian were the worst excuse for parents we could have gotten! How did you escape the cops anyway!?"
"He is your father and I ran outside and he stayed in!" She paused for a minute then spike again, "Wait, your the little bastard that called them!? You ..." She camelittle bit closer and I steadied my aim showing I mean business. My hand shook though. Would I really shoot? My own mother?
What mother?There for, hell yeah.
"I told you ID shoot!" I repeated, but she came coming.
So I shot. Closing my eyes tight, I pulled the trigger.
I looked to see what ID done. It landed a few inches from her heart.
I couldn't beleive I'd shot another human being.
I put the gun back in my pocket and pulled out my phone. Mckenzie sat on my bed against the wall snuggling a pillow we had left behind.
When the person picked up I told them that I was a young girl whose parent was coming after them and threatened tok beat them and it had gone on for years. I told them I had taken a gun for self defense and shot when she came closet bit it was more in the shoulder. She said ok and asked where I was. When she asked for a name i hung up.
Yep pretty much what I do. Hang up on important information.
"Mckenzie we have too leave, now." I told her grabbing her wrist and jumping off the bunk, Mckenzie dragged behind.
"Why?" She said confused as I dragged her in our room as I threw more blankets in a pile. I ran into my parents room and scavenger need through there closet for a suitcase.
Once I good too the bottom of the pile of crap I found a couple. I ran them back in our room and shoved the blankets in. Mom still lying on the floor near the entrance of the room."Why?" Mckenzie repeated as I threw the other pillows and clothing we had in the suitcases.
"Because I called the cops and didn't give them names, if they find us they'll take us too adoption centers and we'll be forced too leave." I finally answered."Now come on we have too get the horses." I urged as I took the bags outside with me and loaded them in the small horse carriage in the barn behind the house. I harnessed a the horses quickly and loaded the four wheeler quickly. Next too it was a little room so I slid it in skin tight close too it. The dogs sat in thr back while the horses where hooked in front. We jumped in with our bags and headed off like the night before. I could hear the sirens behind us, then fading away as we kept going. It was about 3:00 am but now, and as I kept going, I realised nothing would be the same again.
