When me and Mckenzie got home we put her seeds in a small box along with the snacks and we hid it in a door we found in my room in my closet. It had been there when we moved in and it's where I hid Mckenzie when mom and dad were swinging. It blended in with the wall so I knew the bozos wouldn't find it. We had two sleeping bags, our extra blankets, and the snacks until it when too the fort in there.
We went in our little room and organized it a little bit. The lantern we had in there was on a nail that was sticking out of the wall. We left the room once it was all clean. It had a lock but you had too cover it back up with a small peace of the door that covered it. Sometimes I feel as if this house was made for us. I looked at the clock, 11:30. I told Mckenzie too go play while I made macaroni for lunch. She smiles and and ran off too play. That's when mom came out of her room. She saw Mckenzie running and flipped.
"SLOW DOWN YOU DO NOT NEED TOO RUN! GET BACK HERE!!" She screamed. My heart sank and Mckenzie stopped and faced her, shrinking back a little. Mom walked quickly too her, feet slamming the floor. She grabbed her from the hair and yanked her closer too her, hard.
"Stop!" I screamed. "It was my fault! I told her too run off!" I admitted. Moms angered eyes looked at me. The brown in them was like a flame. I knew what was coming now. I stood completely still, a glare on my face, as she walked over too me. She slapped my face three times then walked off.
"Do NOT interrupt me while I'm telling your sister not to do something! And you DONT order her around!" She screamed back at me. I stood motionless, my face burning. When I knew she was gone, I poured the macaroni in the bowl sense the water was boiling. When we finished lunch, we went back in our room. "You didn't have too do that. I can't let you always take my pain." Mckenzie told me.
"Mckenzie, you are way too young too have too take hits like that. And what about school? Teachers will get worried and ask what wrong and why you have those scars. Then if word gets out the police will get contacted. And we would be put in a foster home. I already have a plan." I assured her. She smiled at me saying this. She always loved my plans.
"We have too pack for it though." I told her. She smiled and jumped off her bed and grabbed some bags off the head of her bed.
"What sort of things?" She asked freezing realizing she didn't know.
"Camping stuff." I told her and grabbed my own bags. "How about this, you help me get my stuff then you'll know what to get yourself."
"Ok" she said and climbed onto my bunk. "Pillows?" She asked grabbing my big fluffy blue pillow. I nodded and she tossed it down. I pulled out my suitcase from the closet and threw my pillows in, 4 in total. I managed too fit two blankets in too. Input the full suit case in my secret room after putting my toothbrush and hairbrush in too. After we finished getting my things, as I promised, I helped her with her own. She was excited too know the plan. I could tell with how quick she ripped her blankets and sheets off her bed. She was always into my surprises. We finished our packing and moved too the small room. We rolled up our sleeping bags and folded our blankets into one of my spare suitcases. Along with the snacks and seeds. I managed too sneak into the bathroom and grab medical supplies. We sat on my bunk cramming the medicine supplies into suitcase pockets when the door creaked open a little bit. My heart sank and I looked at the door to just see Hazel and Ace padding into our room. I sighed and called them on my bunk. I had nailed a ramp onto it so the could walk up. They laid down I front of us as if blocking view of the door. We finished putting stuff in the bag and realized I couldn't do this without my dogs. When I was going too the store I found Hazel laying alone in the woods. She was really scrawny and only a puppy. I took her home too only find Ace at the same place the next day. She seemed as if she was looking for something. Sure enough, when I brought him home they ran right for each other and played. The memory made me smile. And jumped off my bunk, followed by Mckenzie climbing down the ladder. I looked in the closet. No more bags.
"Stay put," I told her and called Hazel and Ace and let them out side. I threw a stick and watched as they howled and barked as they ran towards it. I ran back in my room as I heard my mom and dad run out side too see the commotion. I ran into the storage room and grabbed two more suitcases, one was moms and one was dads. I grabbed the dog food and bowls and ran back in the room. I threw them in the secret room and went in. Mckenzie was already in there. So we packed the dog beds in the case and the dog medicine and treats in the same one. Once it was still halfway full, I told her we had to wait till night to do the rest of the packing.
She was excited, she smiled so happily. As if we were planning too get a new puppy. I smiled too. Not for her happiness, but for the fact I might actually give her the life she deserved.
