Chapter 12: "You Should Keep Quiet"

Sawyer's name is now changing to Lainey.

Lainey sat at her desk in fifth period.
She looked to her right and smiled at Jude. The bell rang it was time for lunch. She walked to the lunch room and started to get her food when a girl was whispering about Lainey.

turned around. "If you have something to say about me. Keep it to yourselves."

"Oh well I'm sorry. Go cry back to your foster parents. Or your druggie ones."

"Why don't you go crawl back into that hole your parents pulled you out of." the girl gasped. Jude tapped her shoulder. She pushed it off.

"Lainey,You gotta talk."

"Jude,what is there to talk about? You decided it was best to stop. I did clearly I'm okay." Jude had broken up with her the week before. Lainey just let it happen.

"Alright. Well you are still my best friend til the day I die. I'm gonna protect you."

"Yeah." She glanced down at the bracelet on her wrist. Then walked away.

"I hate this Mom. I hate it." It had been 6 months since Lane had his surgery and he was doing fine.

"Sweetie,boys will be boys. He'll figure it out besides you are only 15. You'll find someone if it isn't him."

"But Mom he promised me in 5th grade."

"Sweetie,promises are always broken. Just ask your dad."

"Ugh." She ran into her room. She pulled her phone out and looked at a picture of the two of them.

"Lainey! Dinner's ready!" Jay yelled. She didn't listen and just sat on her bed.

She had locked the door. "Dad,just leave me alone."

"Lainey Grace! You better get your ass in that kitchen." Lainey scoffed and walked out the door.

"I've never seen you like this."
Jude sat at the firehouse and played with the guys.

"Jude,what's wrong?" asked Kelly

"Ehh nothing. Lainey and I broke up. She won't talk to me."

Kelly glanced at Matt. "Look kid. I'm gonna tell you the same damn thing I told your dad. Go get her. Apologize and kiss her. She'll forgive you. I promise. You wouldn't be here if I didn't tell your dad that." Jude smiled as he looked at his dad holding his little sister.

"Alright. Uncle Peter,what's for dinner?"

"Pizza." A Young lady around Shay's age walked into the kitchen.

"Boden! Who's that?" asked Jude

"Your mom's replacement. Shay,meet Morgan Collins. The new PIC on 61."
Morgan waved. Jude slapped Kelly so he would shut his mouth. He got up and walked towards her.

"Lieutenant Kelly Severide." Kelly smiled as they shook hands.

"Nice to meet you Kelly."

"Aunt Leslie is she taking my Mom's spot?"

"No. No one will ever replace your mom. I promise Jude."

"Okay." Kelly walked away and hugged Jude.

Lainey ate her dinner. Lane and Isaiah were laughing as Erin fed them dinner.

"Mom,I'm sorry. I'm just not having a good day."

"Sweetie we all have those days. It's fine. I promise."

Lainey scoffed. "I guess so. I don't understand why He broke up with me. I love him. We said No Matter What. No matter what we did. We'd always be there for each other but I guess I was wrong."

Jay turned his head and looked at Lainey and Erin.
"Lainey,you'll get him back. One day."

"Yeah. Right dad." Lainey went up into her room and locked the door. She put her music on. She took scissors and started cutting her wrists.

The next morning
"Lainey! Wake up! We gotta go." Jay knocked on the door and didn't hear anything.
"Erin,did you hear her get up?"

"No." Erin was in the boys' room getting them dressed for Hank's house. Jay kicked the door in and saw Lainey unconscious on her bed.

"Shit. Erin! Call Shay! Call Kelly!" yelled Jay

Erin put the boys on the ground and ran to the room. She put her hand over her mouth and grabbed her phone.

"Kelly! Tell Shay to get to the house. Come fast. Lainey is close to dieing." Jay grabbed a towel and put it on her wrists.

"Shay! Collins! Get to this address. Fast."

"Severide,that's Lainey's house."

"Yeah. I know. Lainey was found unconscious in her room."

Jude overheard it and ran towards the ambo.
"Jude,you can't come."

"The hell I can't. She's my best friend." Shay gave Morgan a look and let him go. Jude climbed into the back. Shay sped to Erin and Jay's house. Jude jumped out and ran inside.

"Jude. Get out my house!" Jay yelled

"She's my best friend. Let me see her." Jay picked him up and put him outside.

"You made her do this. This is all your fault."

"No it isn't. These girls at school called her a slut and a bitch. I swear this isn't my fault." Shay started chest compressions.

"If you are lying to me. I swear son. I'm gonna hurt you." Jude walked out and walked towards the ambo. Erin got the twins in their carseat and put them in their cars. Jay hopped into the ambo after Shay and Collins put the stretcher in there. Shay closed the back and Jude jumped into the front seat. Shay pulled out and sped to Chicago Med. Erin jumped into the car and drove to the hospital. Shay pulled the gurney out and pushed it into the hospital. Will saw it and ran towards it. Jay walked in and heard

"She's flatlining!"
