"I'm only looking for Leslie. You two don't need to be collateral damage." I said, as I walked towards them. Laura followed behind, slowly.
"Leslie....so then, is it true? Is Joseph correct?" Sebastian asked, looking directly at me.
"No. Joseph is half-correct. I am trapped in this place, like you, if I'm not mistaken in my suspicions. But I'm not a product of Ruvik's mind, nor his lust for vengeance. I have my own reasons for doing this." I replied to him, asserting my dominance over this situation. Laura's hands flexed, and she was ready to attack- or kill, if need be. Sebastian pulled out a gun, pointing it towards me. "You don't need to do this."
"Yes, I do." He replied. "Not only does Kiddman want to kill Leslie because Ruvik could potentially possess him and use his body to take revenge, we need Leslie's help to get the hell out of here."
"I'm sure Ruvik would agree to letting you out." I replied hastily. I didn't want these two to die.
"I don't think you know him as well as you think you do. We're trapped here because Ruvik wants Leslie. He doesn't care if we live or die, and frankly it seems to be he wants us to die more than live." Joseph said, angrily. He then pulled out his gun.
"I'm sorry to have to do this to you guys..." I said, a tear falling from my left eye. "Laura." Laura wrenched forwards, and the boys shot at her. She screamed, causing all of us to cover our ears. The two bolted down the hall, and Laura followed them. I quickly went in the direction they seemed to be going before Laura and I appeared. As I entered another room that branched from the hallway, a white haired boy huddled in the corner of the room. He was murmuring to himself, quite rapidly.
"No...no, no....no..."
"Are you Leslie?" I asked gently, walking towards the boy. He turned to me. His eyes widened. He stopped speaking entirely, and his mouth simply dropped open.
"You."
He seemed to be insane, so the fact he could utter a single word so clearly was a shock to me. "Uh. Yes, me."
"You're...a-an object."
Wait.
Did this kid just....?
"Excuse me?" I snapped.
"S-sorry!" He said, reverting to his one-word stutter. "Didn't m-mean it?"
I sighed. "Can you come with me, Leslie?"
"No." He said, staring at me more intensely.
"Why not?"
"B-bad."
"I'm not bad, Leslie."
"N-not you."
"Then who?"
"Other o-one."
"Ruvik?"
"..."
By his silence, I was guessing that was a yes. Ruvik had probably tormented these people consistently. And he did want Leslie's body. That was more than enough reason to see Ruvik as the antagonist here.
"Ruvik isn't bad, Leslie." I started, trying to tell Leslie what I thought of this. "I admit, Ruvik is a little...scary...at times, but he just wants his life back. He was betrayed, Leslie, and he wants to fix that. What they did to him was terrible."
A familiar clicking sound came from behind me. Sebastian had the gun pointed against the back of my head. "If you move, then you're going to be looking for a body just as much as he is."
"Look. I get that we're the bad guys in your eyes. I see that and I understand why you're reluctant to let Ruvik have Leslie. But I see it from all points of the perspective, including my own. The people who did this to Ruvik...they deserve it. Because who says they won't do it again, sacrificing countless lives for the sake of science?" I slowly rose to my feet, my hands in the air. "Ruvik escapes, countless people die. Ruvik stays, more countless people die."
"There's no guarantee on the latter." Sebastian replied.
And then he pulled the trigger.
The sound of a gunshot rang through my ears.
So...would this be the end of my story?
Hands tightly gripped me. Ruvik stood in front of Leslie, who was freaking out. I winced. My shoulder had been grazed by the bullet, causing a thin line of blood to seep from my arm.
"I'm taking her, in exchange for your lives."
I looked up at Ruvik, and his eyes were filled with a burning rage.
"Know this. If she dies, you're not just going to be collateral damage. Your death will not only be intended, but painful beyond imagination."
Everything faded to white. I fell out of a bed.
"You're reaching the final chapter of your story, Elise." The nurse said, helping me up. "I assume you want the truth?"
"Please." I replied. The truth was something I needed to know.
She led me to a room, filled with lockers. In the middle of them, stood a safe. She gestured towards it.
"That's what you want to know." She then removed herself from the room. I walked towards the safe, taking the key into my hand. I crouched down, and slid the key into the lock, turning it. The safe slowly swung open, and inside, lay a single piece of paper.
I picked it up, my eyes scanning across it. I dropped it, and backed away from the safe, breaking into a run.
There's no way in hell that it's true.
