As I awoke in the bed, I realized that Ruvik was next to me.
"Don't worry, Elise. All you have to do is stay in the Red Room... I'll get Leslie for us instead. I'm sorry you got harmed." He whispered, stroking my head gently. He seemed to think I was still asleep.
"Am I really Elise?" I murmured. This caused Ruvik to reposition himself and look at me.
"What do you mean?"
"I look exactly like Laura, right? Is it possible you only care... because I might be her?" I asked. This was the question that I feared.
"I don't enjoy your presence because you are Laura, Elise. For sure, you are alike to her, but you are also different. Your views and looks may be alike but your personalities are different." He replied steadily.
"What do you mean?" I asked, confused. I am exactly like Laura.
"She had no thoughts on my...experiments. She didn't care about them. Only me. She didn't care what I did, and she was the only one who understood me...because she was the same as me." Ruvik replied, sighing. " You may have her face, but you are not her. You have feelings and different views on different situations. If you were her... you would have become mine the minute I caged you without a single word needing to be spoken."
"Then... would it be okay if I told you that...I am your sister's doppelganger? My body is exactly like hers." He simply stared at me, then ripped open my dress. "Wh-what the hell are you doing?"
"I knew every curve of my sister's body. Every indent." He stared at my chest intensely. "And you're different. Your breasts are slightly smaller."
I was slightly pissed off by what he said but overall, I was relieved. I covered my chest with my hands.
He removed his coat, revealing what was underneath...and placed it on me.
'Y-your skull..." I whispered, as I stared at the glass inside of his head.
"This is my appearance. I don't know if you'll be able to enjoy my presence now that you've seen it, but I don't trust myself with the control required to be around you half-naked." He said, standing up. "I'm going to go get you a dress." With that, he walked out of the Red Room.
Fate chose this moment for someone else to come sauntering into the Red Room.
"..." Sebastian pushed back a curtain, and looked into what seemed to be a room he'd expect to see in a castle. Was this really Ruvik's domain? Everything he created was usually splattered with blood, but this room had no sign of blood. His eyes were drawn to the bed, where the woman with black hair stood with Ruvik's coat draped around her. He raised his gun, aiming at her.
"What are you doing here?" They said in unison. Sebastian sighed, but his gun remained pointed at her. "I have the gun, I ask the questions."
"...Okay." The woman said meekly. Sebastian remembered that her name was Elise- pronounced a strange way, as if one was saying the word 'lies'.
"Now. What are you doing in this place?" He asked, stepping towards her cautiously.
"This is where I reside, when I'm not out there." She gestured to the door in which Ruvik had left- not that Sebastian knew that.
"So you could say it's safe in here?" Sebastian asked, edging closer.
"Except for the ocassional Ruvik, yes." Elise replied.
"Don't be a smart ass." Sebastian snapped.
"I can't help it. Isn't that what you're supposed to do when someone is pointing a gun at you?"
"Yeah, if you want to die."
We both remained silent for a fraction of a second.
"So, Sebastian..." I said, quietly. "What brings you here?"
"I don't know. I was being chased by one of those...things. I was at a dead end and a curtain appeared. I hid behind it, and it turns out there's an entire room here." He finally got to my side, pressing the gun against my head. It felt cold.
"So...how many people have you shot with that gun?" I asked, trying to gain time for Ruvik to come back and do something.
"Nothing human, yet. Monsters? More than 600 of them, I'd expect."
The entire room wavered.
I was on my knees, and my mother was holding a gun to my head.
"I should send you back to the hell from where you came."
I instantly turned around, grabbing the gun that was in her hands. She let loose a couple shots, which all missed. And then, she pistol - whipped me, making me fall to the ground. A shooting noise resounded and a bullet lodged itself between my ribs.
As the room wavered back, Sebastian was standing over me and the gun he had used to shoot me was still pointed at me. He bent down, probably in an attempt to help me, but shook his head and ran over to the Red Door, exiting it.
I felt like death itself as I watched my blood pool out from underneath me.
It was one of those moments that you don't believe are real. That you feel like you'd wake up from at any moment.
As my life drained from my face, I felt myself getting sleepier. Images of Ruvik went through my head.
Ruvik. Sebastian. Leslie. Joseph.
I had yet to meet the person named Kiddman that they talked about. I wonder what they're like. Maybe I'll find out.
But for now, I'll just....sleep.
I'll wake up in the morning.
