'And the winner is.. Lee Taemin!'

Now, Jongin would be lying if he said he didn't feel at least a little disappointed that he hadn't won the competition, but he was not one to let it get to him.

In fact, he clapped and yelled the loudest for his best friend, who shared a million dollar smile with him as he walked up to collect his trophy.

Backstage, everything was a blur. It was the last night before the Christmas holidays, of course, which left everyone buzzing in excitement.

Here, there and everywhere, people busied themselves with tidying their belongings up ready for the trip home. But for a little while, Jongin just wanted to take things calmly.

He clapped his best friend on the back as he passed, shooting him a brief but sincere, 'Congratulations, buddy.'

Taemin smiled warmly, returning the gesture. 'Thanks, Jongin. I think you should have won though.'

This earned a light laugh from Jongin, before he thanked his friend and bid him goodbye, continuing on his way shortly after.

He sought out his boyfriend, who was packing away his costume after getting changed. Jongin had done the same, and had packed his outfit away in his bag to keep it safe.

'Hey,' Kyungsoo said, turning around and into Jongin's waiting arms. 'You okay?'

'Yeah,' Jongin smiled warmly. 'I'm a little gutted that neither of us won, but I don't mind that, really.'

Humming softly, Kyungsoo leaned up and stole a kiss from the younger's lips. 'You don't need that silly prize, anyway.'

'That's true,' Jongin replied softly, closing the tiny distance between them to kiss Kyungsoo lips again softly. 'I already have the best prize in the world. I have you.'

'Are you sure they're even here?' Kyungsoo asked, glancing around at the many faces of the audience as he was pulled only half-willingly through them.

'It's only my mum,' Jongin replied with a giddy smile, craning his neck to see how close they were. 'Don't worry. She'll love you.'

'You'll tell me anything,' the smaller huffed, giving up on scanning the crowd and allowing himself to be dragged the rest of the way.

However, when he caught sight of a beautiful lady - presumably in her late thirties to early forties, with sun-kissed skin and dark brown hair that seemed to glow under the light of the hall - Kyungsoo's heart began to race.

He began to resist Jongin's grip once again, but the younger took no notice as he called out to the woman. 'Mum! Over here!'

The woman instantly caught sight of them and hurried over, and Kyungsoo whimpered softly. He wasn't so much bothered about meeting new people, but this was Jongin's mother. What if she didn't like him? What if she didn't approve of their relationship?

But Kyungsoo was left with no time to think any further as Jongin's mother appeared in front of them, a heart-warming smile lifting the corners of her lips.

'Jongin, sweetheart, I missed you,' she said as she pulled the tall boy into a tight hug, squeezing her eyes shut as she held him.

He laughed softly, returning her hug as he replied, 'I missed you, too, mum. It's been a long term.'

'It has, indeed,' she agreed, releasing him and smiling briefly. Her eyes fell upon Kyungsoo, then, and he blinked in surprise.

Thankfully, Jongin saved him from any awkwardness just in time. 'Mum, I'd like you to meet my.. boyfriend, Do Kyungsoo.'
