Chapter 23

Nic's POV

I walked alone back the bus. I didn't even bother telling anyone what happened. I didn't want to think about it. Much to my luck, when I got there, everyone was already there.

"There she is!" shouted Max. He came and gave me a hug and I could smell the alcohol. They were drinking. What else is new?

"Hey guys I'm tired, think I'm gonna hit the sack." No one seemed to listen so I headed straight to my bunk. It was on the floor so it was easily accessible which really helped since I randomly got this wave of exhaustion over me. I quickly changed into pj's and went to sleep.

I woke up and there was little light. The sun must just be rising. I looked up and around and saw that everyone was still asleep. I was about to go back to sleep when I saw that Nathan wasn't in his bunk across from mine. I got up and looked all over the bus but he was no where to be found. I gave up looking and was about to head back to sleep when I was pulled into the bathroom.

"Gotchya." Nath whispered. I pretended to slap him to which he smiled at.

"What are you doing up so early?" I asked.

"People do get up to use the bathroom you know. Anyone if I wasn't then I wouldn't be able to do this." His face inched closer to mine and my heartbeat picked up. Just as his lips were about to touch mine, I felt a sharp pain in my stomach. I looked down to see blood, and a knife..in Nathan's hand. I cried out in pain and sunk to the floor but he did nothing. I kept crying out but it didn't help. I felt my breathing pick up and my body get colder as the pain increased. It got harder and harder to breathe and eventually....I woke up.

It was still dark and I was covered in sweat. It was really hot and I felt like I was going to be sick.

"Nicola, are you okay? Nic? Are you awake?" I heard a faint whisper from next to me. I turned over and saw that Nathan was crouched down on the floor next to my bunk.

"Yeah, just a nightmare." As I said that, I started crying and shaking uncontrollably. Nath quickly put his arm around me and started running his hand through my knotted hair. He then started humming and soon I was fast asleep.

When I awoke again, it was bright and noisy. I crawled out of my bunk, clutching my stomach as a felt a pain surge through it. Wait, night sweat, nausea, random crying, pain in stomach? That only meant one thing.

"AAANNNGGIIEEE!" I semi-shouted though it sounded more like a moan.

"I'm coming!" She came over with a glass of orange juice and two pills. I took the pills and chugged them down with the orange juice.

"Dude I don't think I brought anything." I said.

"You didn't. I already looked. We're going to a pharmacist in the next town." She replied. Leave it to me and Angie to get our periods and not bring and pads or tampons. Leave it to me and Angie to get our periods at the same time. After I finished my orange juice, I layed back down and started to moan in pain. Angie on the other hand just sat there like some kind of moral support. Lucky her had some prescription drug that got rid of her cramps whereas I just needed to take Aleve and if I didn't take it in time, suffer the wrath of Mother Nature. Good thing, the next town was close by or else people who have killed me to get me to shut up. When we finally got there, I was in so much pain that I was sweating.

"Angie...why does Mother Nature hate me?" I asked as I attempted to put some leggings and a sweater on.

"Probably because you won't give Nath another chance." she replied.

"How the hell do you know that?" The sound of shock obvious in my voice.

"Dude...he told Siva who told Jay who told Max who told Tom who told me though I had to hear it with a more colorful use of language." She laughed. In return I just moaned and  attempted to get up. After what felt like forever, I finally made it into the store.

" So what are we looking for?" asked Jay.

"Pads or tampons." I bluntly stated. I really didn't care if he wanted to hear it or not.

"AHHHH Seev and I will go get some candy and stuff." he answered while pulling Siva along with him. That left me, Angie, Max, Tom and Nath. When we got to the aisle with pads, the boys started looking around.

"Hey Max! I think these are for you mate! They're 'maxi pads'!" shouted Tom.

"Perfect!" Max shouted back at him and he grabbed one and put it in the basket.

"Are you seriously buying that?" I asked.

"Obviously! I'm on my period too!" I just laughed as he said that. Angie was looking to make sure she got the right pads and tampons so I decided to take a seat. My ankles were seriously killing me and not to mention I was still in pain.

"You alright Nic?" Hearing it in his voice felt like a bee sting. I looked up to see him looking down at me waiting for a reply.

"No I'm not. Everything hurts!" I was not int the mood to deal with him right now. Instead of saying anything back, he crouched down and picked me up bridal style.

"I'm going to take her back to the bus. See you all later." He said to Max, Tom and Angie. He then proceeded to carry me out of the store and onto the bus. He put me down in a chair and then started to heat up some water.

"Would you like some tea?" he asked.

"Sure." I didn't really know how to respond. He was acting like a good friend but did I really want to be just friends? It felt wrong to be. Soon after I got my tea, everyone came and joined us. Jay threw a chocolate bar at me and when Tom came in, I couldn't stop laughing. He had a tampon shoved up one of his nostrils.

"Hey Tom, I don't think that goes there." I said.

"But I got a nosebleed." he answered which just made me laugh. When I finally caught my breath again we heard Max shout from the bathroom, "Gosh these feel like baby diapers! How do girls wear these?" He then walked out and started walking oddly. It was pretty funny to watch actually. I really know some weird people.
