He had always known that Rhoni was an eccentric girl, perhaps to the point of extremity sometimes, but showing up on his front porch at 4 am was taking it a bit too far. Their relationship hadn't really ended well. There was a lot of yelling back and forth, as well as tears from Rhoni. If it had been anyone else in that situation, then he would have almost seemed cruel for breaking up with her on Valentine's Day, especially when it was her favorite holiday. However, everyone at school had been whispering behind their backs about how sweet little Rhoni was going crazy. When he first heard the rumors, he simply dismissed them with a snort and carried on with his life. There was no point in dwelling on trivial things like that. But then the signs began to appear: broken fingernails, blood stains on her clothes, how she always seemed exhausted. He had tried to confront her and maybe help her with whatever was going on, but all that resulted in was her pushing him away further. It shouldn't have come as a surprise to her that he would want to end things when she never put any effort into their relationship, but it seemed like she was taking it pretty hard.
Even though he had no desire at all to see her at the moment, he opened the door for her anyways. He wasn't heartless.
"Rhoni? Why are you here?"
He noticed how she seemed strangely energetic, almost bursting with energy. It reminded him of the times when everything between them was still okay, when they were still foolishly infatuated with each other. She looked up at him with an apologetic expression, her eyes electrified with something that he couldn't identify.
"Hey, I'm really sorry about showing up like this, okay? I know we only broke up last week and the last thing you want is to see me in front of your house, but I'm here to take what's mine."
Confusion washed over him, but before he could ask her what she left at his house, she reached out with both hands and took the heart out of his chest. He immediately crashed to the ground and gaped at his empty chest in stupefaction. When he tried to say something, blood gurgled out of his throat instead of words. He watched Rhoni walk away cradling his heart in her hands with blurry vision before he rapidly slipped out of consciousness, his eyes losing focus until all that remained was a strange, murky black, then nothing at all.
