The water looked deep and inviting.

Blue and white tendrils wrapped around her outstretched feet as she sat on the edge of the dock, the waves beckoning her to jump in. The sky was still dark and she could barely see her own hands.

The girl sat on the edge of the dock with a wheelchair beside her at 3 am, without any shoes and wearing just a thin green dress. There were tears streaming down her cheeks, as clear as the salty ocean. Her wavy black hair was messy and there were bags under her eyes, making her seem a lot older than she actually was.

As the troubled girl gazed into the ocean, she couldn't help but think about how mysterious it was. Those waters were sometimes treacherous, trying to pull people in and bring them to their knees. Others times, they were calm, peaceful, quiet and soothing, almost like a mother's lullaby that made a child fall asleep. The ocean was a place humans couldn't walk, where their feet would fail them no matter how much they tried. It was a place of the great unknown, where creatures lurked beneath the surface of the water and hid in the shadows deep down on the ocean floor.

The girl in the green dress had always been a curious child. She wanted to know what it would feel like to be submerged completely by the cold frigid water, what it would feel like to actually be in the ocean instead of just watching from afar. So after weeks of deliberation she finally decided to do it. Now as she sat on the damp wooden planks of the dock, she couldn't help but think of Lizzie. I'm coming, sister. Don't worry, I'm coming.

She gazed back at the wheelchair and looked around, drinking in the interminable silence and taking one last mental picture of the world. Then slowly, inch by inch, the girl lowered herself into the water, carefully pulling her feet in. At once the waves crashed over her, filling her with panic. What am I doing? But as she sunk deeper and the waves closed in on her, she felt surprisingly peaceful. She could hear the music, the song of the sea. It was carried by the waves and flowed rhythmically, whispering to her Don't be afraid.

Water soon engulfed her, swallowing her body whole, but she did not care. She wanted to continue listening to the sea. She wanted the ocean to take her and to reunite her with Lizzie. She wanted it to take away the pain whenever she saw the grieving looks of her parents. Most of all, she wanted it to take away her feet, her useless feet that she couldn't even use. So the girl in the green dress let it all go: her worries, her pain, her sadness, frustration, and surrendered everything to the ocean.

Hours seemed to have passed as she was slept peacefully.

Then she felt a pair of arms wrap around her, pulling her up to shore. She tried to resist, she tried to break free from the tight grip because she wanted to continue sleeping and see Lizzie, but the arms would not give up and continued to head towards the surface where light was already beginning to penetrate the dark water.

When they finally emerged, the girl kicked and screamed at the person who pulled her from the ocean, thrashing about wildy and trying to crawl back. But the figure just wrapped a warm blanket around her shivering body and held the girl in the green dress close, not wanting to let her go.

She could smell salt and a touch of mint as she pressed her face to his wet shoulder. When she looked into his face, he didn't need to use words to convey what he was feeling. His face, which was usually so hidden, was now an open book. There was panic in his beautiful green eyes, mixed with anger and a lot of sadness. The girl was still shivering, her own eyes still full of pain. He kissed her forehead gently, trying to reassure her that he was there for her and always would be. They sat back down at the edge of the wooden dock, and this time she could actually see the ocean as the sun emerged from horizon. The boy gave her a small smile and hugged her again, as if she would dissapear if he let her go.

At that moment the girl in the green dress realized that she was incredibly lucky to have someone so wonderful to wake up to in the morning, someone that would always take care of her. She smiled softly and closed her eyes, clinging to boy as if he were her lifeline.

Oceans, you can't get to me anymore. I've found my anchor and as long as I'm with him I will never sink.
