_______

Every day at the bus stop he saw her.

She would always be there, rain or shine. Most days she would be sitting on the bench, immersed in the fascinating book she brought with her and not noticing anything around her. The bustling life around her would fade away and she would be transported into another universe. Other times she would simply be listening to music on her iPod, hiding from the rest of the world behind a sleek curtain of black hair. They had never talked or uttered a single word to each other, and yet they felt comfort in each other's presence. He would sit next to her, munching on a bagel or whatever he didn't have time to finish for breakfast. Passengers would come and go, buses would drive away, but at the end of all of this, only they are left. Waiting. She was just a small town girl and he was a city boy.

Days, months, and seasons passed in silence until at last their lives collided. Quite literally.

It was a normal Wednesday. The girl was in her usual spot, peeking from her book occasionally in wait of her companion. The boy was running late. Clutching his turkey sandwich, he rushed to the bus stop, hoping she had not yet left. She in the mean time had decided that he would not show up, just as he ran onto the platform, falling headfirst at her feet. He smiled weakly, scrambling up quickly as he tried to regain his balance. At once she was hit by his blue eyes. They reminded her of the stormy sea, shifting and changing as the wind blew on its path. He was first hit by her freckles. They sprinkled over her button nose like little stars that covered the vast void.

No one had the courage to speak first. But as she continued to stare into the ever-changing sea, and as he watched the stars on her face, they were both hit with a sudden wave of affection. And so, swallowing his nervousness, the boy uttered three simple words that would forever stay etched in her memory, slowly and softly: "You are beautiful." The girl was startled. But she did not try to hide her shock as she glanced at him with shining eyes. Not once in her life has anyone said that to her. No one had ever cared. And yet looking into the face of this familiar stranger, she could see his sincerity. He himself was surprised by his sudden boldness. But when he saw the turmoil and tears in her brown eyes, he knew that she needed to hear those three little words. Not "I need you, or even "I love you," but simply "You. Are. Beautiful."

The girl had never believed anything that came out of the mouth of a human being.

But for the first time in her life, she believed one.

a/n: The world will always try to convince you otherwise and will try to make you feel insecure. It will tell you that we are flaws and deceit and lies and sadness. But we are also human beings. It's just what we are. So the next time you visit someone's message board, type out a few words on how beautiful they are. Tell your friends and family that that they're amazing and wonderful and beautiful. Never ever even think for a second that you're ugly or useless or unworthy, because you. are. beautiful. And I love you, very very much <3
